Only Daughter wants to build a tribute to her Single Parent Father.

Discussion in 'The Hokey Ass Message Board' started by radgirl, Aug 20, 2012.

  1. Good luck to you radgirl, I am sure you will make your Dad proud.

I brought in my Caddy 18 months ago - a body on a chassis full of parts. It was a pain in the ass, dealing with the Gov was a hassle but when you you see a car you want. You just make it happen and boy was it worth the grief! Good luck and I hope there will be a build thread when it gets here,...

I hope things turn out well for all involved, and kudos to you.

Before buying a project car from a stranger, I'd recommend buying from someone here on the HAMB. The Classifieds are LOADED with viable options. Good luck in whatever you decide.

  5. First off , Good on you for appreciating a fine father and wanting to do right by him.
Now , not trying to be a smart ass but if you're not on a tight budjet ( you hinted you wern't ) then I think you need to take a hard look at this one

Buying from a hamber is going to be a way more pleasant experience for you and this looks like you'll be able to take the old man for a lap a whole lot sooner .

Best of luck in whatever you choose to do for him .
    Rod .

That's the one. I have to add around 500 to have it stripped down into parts and 3k to have it shipped oh plus taxes (fuckers) I really would prefer a project like I said that my boys can help with and I have a 49 Merc. I would pay crap loads here for one. I'd rather spend money on the rebuild and restoration than over pay for 1 I will have to restore from Body off chassis anyway. Just my preference. Unless there's any Aussie HAMBers with a Zephyr coupe ( not the 50k rolling chassis one either)

    Hello Radgirl,
I so get your Idea, Being originally from Newcastle NSW (Close by), My Dad (recently passed) sacrificed his time and hobbies for me over many hard years of me growing up and we then worked side by side for twenty years after that, I was lucky to be able to look after him pretty well finnancially for the last ten years of his time and some of our really cool projects will now never be completed (but that's a different story).

My point is; a project car doesn't need to ever get finished to be of value, sometimes it's something cool to keep you going, even just waiting for it to be shipped is a reason to not "let go" and the better the project the bigger the incentive, for my Dad at least, a finished or even driveable car wouldn't have been much of an incentive, but a project that he could dream about and do his own way and be as rare and cool as a Zephyr Coupe, well, I wish I'd thought of that.

Might be time to start my kids thinking about how I might like one when they're all grown up.

Good Luck, both to your Dad, but mostly to you, as I know you don't want to think about it, but sooner or later, hopefully much later, the day will come, He'll at least have finished his suffering, at which point you'll have either a great car infused with his spirit or a project to finish as the best kind of therapy.

    Best Wishes
    Rick

    Someone mentioned my name?

    Awesome story!

So a month down the road, where are we at with getting this?

  12. I know this is about a month old, but you might PM Mr48chev. He lives in Yakima and possibly could look at the car. I am about 40 miles north. Yes , Yakima is a desert climate, but the I believe ad states the car is from back East.

I sorely believe the car I was looking at was a scam (f*cker) anyway my dad came to visit and had photos of his younger days and the bikes he owned, and I managed to track down his original bike and have set to resto it for him. As for a car....... I was looking at visiting for v8 Supercars Austin 2013 and trying to find something suitable then but that visit probably won't happen. Back to the drawing board for a car.
