It is hard to compare when each Photoshop rendering is on a differant page... so, I'm re-posting the Bird to compare the tops

My Ranchero will have the same roof overhang and windshield higher than the sides... but, the back post would add a huge visual differance... I have rear 4 dr wagon doors but the drip rail would be the deal breaker unless a doner was found that would match up

I might as well post another shot of the Ranchero roof too... It has more of the Bird look than the original Ranchero

Scott had a daughter on Dec 28th with a known heart defect.... Surgery on Jan 3rd... finally out of the hospital Jan 15th... so with all that and school the Ranchero has been on-hold and may be for a while... I glad everything is starting to work out and the baby is home...

And I've been working with Carey to on a windshild for the roasdster http://www.jalopyjournal.com/forum/showthread.php?t=431579

Thom, Love the shape of your windshield. Do you have any detail shots of how it was fabbed ? I have a one off '29 "A" RPU body and would love something along the same style. Also have a RPU top made from metal. It would have to be chopped but sure would look great with that V'd windshield !

There is a guy on craigslist selling a '58 Ranchero Bed. I think the '57 Bed is the same.

    Ranchero parts for 1958

    Bed Floor excellent condition $50.00
    Rear bumper $50.00

57 Fords had more differences from model to model than could ever be imagined....And not just body parts,.... We learned the hard way that that year used 6 different driveshafts, just one example.

That looks like a great project,...keep us posted !!

What an incredible amount of work going into this car/truck. Great determination and eye for detail.

Best wishes for scott and his daughter.

I spoke to Scott this week... his daughter is doing well and life is starting to get back to normal... he plans on starting back on the Ranchero soon... since I believe taking care of family is his highest priority, I'll let him set a comfortable pace... thanks for your positive comments, I'm sure he appreciates them...

Just wanted to jump on here and thank everyone for their support. My daughter has been in and out of the hospital a few times since coming home from the original surgury but she is doing well now and things are starting to get back to normal (if that's even possible). She will have to undergo open heart surgury once she is 8 -12 months old so she isn't out of the woods yet. The doctors are happy with where she is right now and are confident that she can fully recover from her condition.

I haven't worked on the ranchero since October and I'm getting quite anxious to get back out to the garage. I'm also finishing my last semester of college and will be graduating in May, so I've got a lot on my plate right now. With that said, I hope to get this project moving again very soon!

    Thanks again!

Good to hear things are going well for your daughter. And going to school on top of it all? Wow. Kudos to you.

Hope to see the Ranchero progress. This is my favorite build thread on the H.A.M.B.

Glad to hear your daughter is doing much better. Keeping the prayers going too.

This is one of my favorite threads on here to read through whenever there's nothing else at the top of the HAMB.

I'm really enjoying your build. I'm doing a 57 Ranchero too. Under my bed everything was rusted out.I just cut out everything inside the bed and fabricated new body mounts. I eliminated all the rear footwells and that spare tire well that wasn't accessable anyhow under the bed! I also replaced the footwells in the cab with basically flat panels. I didn't think I needed footwells behind the seat anyhow. It will give me more room underneath for mufflers etc. I'm going to install a fuel cell instead of that stupid Ford tank with a "tire well" formed in it. I'm not sure yet how I'm finishing the bed except it won't be like stock. Likely it will be wood with chrome strips. I'm going to have a tonneau cover on it anyway. I don't quite understand your attention to making your bed so stock. It was a crappy design from the factory and you are building a unique and beautiful custom. Why not put some lockers in the bed that use that wasted space underneath?

My intent is to have a car that could have been a factory prototype... I have NOS quarters so I will be able to make the inner panels straight before they are put on... The only custom feature will be the top which uses factory components...

A factory prorotype "retractable convertable" Ranchero would have been cool too. A Roadster pickup.

Copied from Scott's facebook on August 8th

The day has finally come that our sweet, little Allison gets to come home!!!!!! It only took 5 weeks and 2 days, but it has arrived. She has been doing well and we are ecstatic to get our family back together at home. There are still some hurdles to clear as far as her eating goes but we are confident she will make the transition smoothly. Please keep her in your thoughts and prayers as she continues to heal and fully recover. Thank you all for your continued love and support! It has been quite an ordeal but hopefully we are all stronger for having survived it. Ally has been a feisty little fighter throughout and now we will move forward, finding all the new ways that she can give me gray hair.

A couple of years ago I found the quarters on eBay and inner rear quarters this past weekend... The rockers, tailgate, tailgate hinge support, and center pales below the hood - I've had for 38 years... The fenders I've known about for a long time but was only able to trade for them a few years ago...

Anyone familiar with these cars knows that NOS stuff was generally used up when these cars were fairly new and I'm torn at using a lifetime collection on a custom...

  30. wow, I can imagine that is a tough decision and I'm not sure I have any great words of wisdom to share. My only thought would be if the panels currently on the Ranchero are good enough to save without using the NOS panels then maybe just fix what you have.

Tough decision for sure but regardless what you decide I know the Ranchero will turn out beautifully.
