So I pull into the shop today and this is sitting in my driveway!?!?!

  1. I think that you should keep it IH and swap in a 549 gas V8, the repair shop I swept shop in during High school had a few setting around for irrigation engines. they were used in v liners and fleetstars and others. probably get horrible mileage, but it would lower the front a few inches.

Nice.. but a vintage 20 foot travel trailer. remove the axle and plop it on the back for one wicked motorhome! The world needs more gypsy wagons!

    Good luck!

Thing that I can't get past on those old trucks is the $1500-$2000 worth of rubber you have to buy just to roll them around

'They all gotta start somewhere,, that looks good and solid and your father did very well.
Plenty of possibilities with that model. Mine looked about the same when I brought it home. The wife who likes that I have a hobby told a friend " should see the rusty old truck he came home with!"

why not look for an chevy based motor home as a donor. gives you engine trans better brakes power stearing almost every thing youneed to make the swap.
