Is (2) 12V fans on radiator better than the motor fan ??

Discussion in 'The Hokey Ass Message Board' started by 48coupe, Aug 21, 2012.

  1. Almost half of the fan sits above the radiator. There is one 12V fan in front and it does keep it cool at 190*. The radiator could be a little higher, maybe 3" or 4" is all. I think it would cool much more efficently with a double 12 V fan unit and take the fan blade off the motor. Question: what car has the double fan unit that I need to move enough air through the rad. to cool it ? It's a mild Chevy 350
Or is there another route ?
    Thanks guys. :)

A good clutch fan for AC cars with a shroud would work fine. Or measure radiator and use two 12 volt electric fans side by side or stacked as pullers, depending on how high or wide the radiator is. Keep cool.
If it's running cool now why worry?

  3. Well for one thing I have a terrible, loud, high pitch fan noise. I would like to use a shroud but that isn't possible because of where the fan sits. I would prefer to use the clutch fan & shroud. Humm, maybe if I put the fan on the crank pulley......
Does it make a difference, what's the best ? pushers or pullers ?

Pullers work with the air flow. Pusher fans obstruct, more than help.

  5. Try Chryslers. Like Intrepids, Concords. Nice double fan units.

Well I am running a single electric puller fan, it has an integral shroud and is a dual speed. Came off a 3.8L Taurus circa 1992. The fan moves enough air on the low selection to keep the 351W in my 53 F100 cool (around 88-90C). If you set it on the high speed it would probably pull the car thru the air :)
