After I added myself as a Newbie thought you guys might be interested in my MZKITY project. She had previously received a very shitty chop, and the roughest (and dangerous!) of all engine and chassis conversions Ive ever seen.

Yesterday I pulled her down and got a pretty scared to say the least as she is to be pretty much one of my everyday drivers. The engine is sitting pretty much straight against the chassis rail with the steering hard up against the wishbone. The fuel Pump is jammed hard up on the chassis rail. The battery is mounted straight above the exhaust manifold. And the list goes on and on.... So far I had only looked the "Master fabrication and Welding Skills" ;) so for a good belly chuckle I will post photos as I go. I have already removed the sheetmetal that was hanging down from the roof ready to decapitate my kids and removed the rotting liner and rust that flew around and into my eyes when I was driving. I have just Sprayed it for the moment to keep it rust free until I fix the roof chop at a later date.

Today I will be powering up my Plasma Cutter and working out what I am going to do with the chassis needless to say it will end with reinforcing the chassis sections that have been butchered.

Just more photos as I go. See the awesome Fabrication

No Judging my daggy nasty ass shoes....... they're comfy and not usually worn in public.

Anyway Im not going for a restoration just a safer and neater build. She's too far gone for making anything original. Im going to keep her sexy look but just a bit more up to my standard without taking her off the road for too long a periods.

More of the precision fab skills.......Whoa crazy stuff

Lesson 1 in How NOT to do a Conversion. While I have her stripped down I may just replace the Chev 350 with a Cleveland I have.

Good luck MsKity radgirl. We don't care what kind of shoes you' re wearing in your photos or your restoration/correction work. Just keep the pictures and the updates coming. I've always wanted a 49 Merc but still don't own one. So you are way ahead of many of us.
Make it safe. You can make it pretty later.:D

  6. Heres a long lost relative!!!! Im trying to save this one too!!! Good luck with it!

Maybe it was too much beer that caused all of the lovely work I am fixing

  11. Damn,,,another fine example of some Putz getting his hands on a welder that shouldn't have and instantly thinks he's Dick Dean. I feel sorry for the Car and someone should Knock that D.F. out. Sorry you are starting with such a Rough piece but also Glad your willing to try to straiten Her out. At least it sounds like you know Right from Wrong and also have some Common sense.

Well Battery now successfully moved into boot but not mounted yet. Theres a dirty great big fuel cell in there that Im just not sure about yet. 3 freaking hours heating and removing the ancient stoneguard and all ive managed is one door (now that is a c-bomb of a job) Well............ Dunno if it was the best solution to my problem but it was an easier option to just plate up the chassis, guess I will work with what I have. have removed the ugly ass digital Tacho and CD player from the Dash, the yards of amp wiring and connectors. Ive decided today to make up a panel for front of the dash rather than trying to find glove box and original radio. My hands are sore to be honest, I usually only do the dainty work these days, my hair is full of stoneguard and my teeth even feel gritty. But I must admit Im proud of todays efforts.

Problem is I live with Mr Pedantic and unfortunately it's worn off onto me somewhat.... Bugger. But in saying that she will still look the same but drive safer, smoother and hopefully will last my lifetime :)

Sorry guys but last time I post. I hate dicks. Im a brake specialist and been doing so since I was 16 I'm now 38. In another thread I suggested someone clamp their hoses to check for brake pedal drop at each wheel after bench bleeding to save all the guess work and have been raped with neg shit. I don't need it. I guess old Billy bob and Joe blow who use clamps to fuck their old ass perished hoses wouldn't know shit from clay. Sigh ..... And ps I've never fucked anything unless they asked for it. Dicks! Thought this forum was really good -.-

radgirl, just ignore them. keep posting your build and dont worry about the negative stuff. my project aint even welcomed in this forum cause of my choice of build style, but i keep posting and have got alot of positive stuff come from it.

I guess that's why chicks can't be fucked because old know it all c-Bombs shoot em down.
And I also bet they fuck around with every component in a system for days to diagnose a problem in a particular area that could have solved in minutes. Yeh I'm a bitch. I don't appreciate being told I'm not a specialist in a field I have been in for 22 years trying to give someone a quick tip to solve at least a way to check where a problem is coming from within a whole system. Anyway my 49 Merc will be on the road again safe and sexy within the time you have found your brake pedal problem. Far out! Imagine them with wiring and electrical issues. Replacing every component throughout the vehicle. Big hmmmmph

Almost sounds like this project is better suited for the Rat Rod forum, not the HAMB.

Seems like a prick thing to say. She's trying to fix the car up, not fuck it up like the previous owner did, so I subscribed. Life's too short to be a Dick.

I always like following other Merc builds. It looks like you have a lot of work ahead of you. Here are some Merc related threads here on the Hamb that may help:

    I don't get it.
She is trying to fix up some other person's hack job and save an old car.
I've seen some very cool customs built here on the HAMB that have been rescued from similar piles. Not everyone gets to start with something nice.
So why are you so quick to trash?
