I'm trying to finish my Galaxies under-dash Mark unit. I got the setup with the factory Mark bracket for an FE without a compressor. So I am looking for ideas on a compressor. Looking for a nice small unit with a v-belt. One preferably that I could find at a pick a part. Is there a Sanden that has a V belt.
Can't stop I use a window crank. But you can change the pully on a sanden or buy them new on line with a V belt pully they afre not very expensive new if you look around. If I have a Ford as big and bodacious as they were I would be looking for an original or original replacement compressor. Aside from being the correct size that are easily rebuilt and if you ever decide to not run A/C (which I ***ume is not likely) they can be converted to an air compressor that makes enough volumn to bead up a tire.
I have just the compressor you need...the old York/Techumseh. I just carried it out to the shed. It's a heavy *******!
I have the remains of the York that came on it, and the carc*** is damn heavy! I was thinking of rebuilding it, just not sure if its all there. Up here the mini truck guys have scavanged up all of em from the salvage yards, you'd be hard pressed to find one under a hood if its been there more than a day. And FYI when I'm drivin its windows down, but with it being black on black (and with the weather we've been having) I'll be hard pressed to get the little lady in it without air.
I don't know if you can buy an adapter, but you could probably make one from angle iron, to mount a little sanden type compressor on the old square mount. I sold one of these big compressors on ebay not too long ago, it was the early one with the neat fins, from the late 50s. Didn't get much for it.
Yes, Sandens can be bought with a V belt. I wouldn't pee-pee on a York unless you were just dying for that look.

Before it was mini truckers it was the off road crowd. When I was still living in mexico there was nothing better to see when in the bush with a flat than a fella with a converted york. If I could lay my hands on the big ****** I would do so and it sounds like Squirrel can hook you up.
I know some of the newer serpentine oem stuff has 4 p*** thru holes and bolt to a cast bracket and it seems like they would mount to the York flange with little mods, just not v belt.
You can buy a new sanden look alike for about 150 a new sanden would be better. Old air are vintage air have the adapter. Why not go ahead and fix it right and keep everyone cool and sorta happy. You could make the adapter.
I've been running a 1964 vintage York 210 for 35 years and 85,000 miles! Have had to put about 3 seal kits in it, but otherwise no problems...as long as you keep about an inch of oil (measured with a coat hanger), they will run forever...still running 12 Freon and it will freeze you even in my big car...Main reason I have not changed out is I drive my power steering off the second groove on the clutch and all is working fine...if it aint broke - dont mess with it! Get used to one thing - all Yorks leak slightly around the crankshaft seal...never seen one that didn't...
I'm partial to the GM A-6 compressor, the long black one. The one on my wagon will flat out freeze you out and they last.
Have you checked volvos for Yorks? Mid 80's ford trucks had the sanden with a v belt. You can take the clutch set up off and put it on a serpentine one.
York compressors are used by the air bag and off-road guys because they have the separate oil sump, ie self-lubricating. They do not have the oil recirculating with the refrigerant like all of the other designs such as Sanden, A6, R4, etc. A York would be the correct comrpessor used when your A/C setup was new, but a Sanden will work fine. I have a Sanden compressor (V-belt) with an old 60's underdash Mark evap unit in my 49 Ford COE; just like you are planning to use. I run R-134a and it works great. Biggest issue with R-134a is use the biggest and most efficient condenser you can. Makes the R-134a work better. The old style R-12 condensers do not have enough capacity for optimum R-134a performance. They will work, but it may not get as cold.
I totally agree with this. When the rest of the system is up to par, you will have turn the fan spped or the temp down. They work really well.
