I was just looking for peoples opinion. I came across a 64 galaxie 2 door hard top for under $500 bucks. The body is in great shape, but the car is gutted. I have a pretty nice 4 door sedan, I have owned the car for over 10 years, It was my high school car. Put yourself in my shoes, would you sacrifice the 4 door to build the 2 door HT?

At that price it's not far from it being s****ped or just bought for a few parts. Unless you want and plan on doing something with the 4 door then go for it. I've got a buddy who's first car was a 40s Plymouth sedan, his second was a 40s Plymouth coupe and the coupe is the one he kept.

  3. Sell the more door and stick the money in the 2 door. If done right it's value will appreciate and you'll look good cruising in it!

Personally, I'd prefer the sedan over the hardtop, and I certainly wouldn't trash the sedan to build the 2-door.

But I'm not really looking at it from a pricing standpoint.

Look around and find the parts to fix the 2 door and then you have 2 to love.

I agree with ya birdman and newport. Ive got my first kid on the way, i guess the 4 door would be good to have for a family cruiser, plus it has a/c. I think i should get the 2 door anyway, for that price, hell the bumpers are worth that. I appreciate the advice guys.... I have a problem with taking on to many projects and then the ADD kicks in and i cant focus on anything haha

Ive been wanting to build something to take down the strip, the 2 door doesnt have a motor and ive got a 429 police interceptor looking for a home. I guess i could restore the 4 door, and turn the 2 door into a drag car since its allready gutted

The fact this was your HS car and you have had it for over 10 years, that makes wanting to tear apart the 4 door really a tough thing to do.

You say the 2 door is gutted, but lots of the parts from the 4 door aren't going to do you any good anyway, like the interior.

I wouild just leave the 4 door intact and enjoy it and slowly build the 2 door from parts you buy elsewhere.

Yeah..I'm with Don! Build the 2 dr slowly when you get parts. I myself, prefer 2dr cars all day long. I don't mess with the 4drs! However, you've got a family....and it'll be a cool family cruiser!! I say go for it! $500 (or under) ain't nothing!!!

I say buy the 2 door and maybe something will come along to put the interior back in it.

But I wouldnt junk your 4 door, sounds like its been with you too long now. Also with the family it would be much better. When kids are older and can get in the backseat of a 2door hardtop by themselves it's alright. It's a pain in the *** putting them in the backseat and strapping in a c****at, in a 2 door.

  16. To your own taste, but there is nothing neat about a '64 Ford door sedan and a tudor can hold 6 p***engers, how many kids ya plan on. If only has room and time for one car, the tudor is the ticket.;) Certainly don't trash the 4 door, sell it. one of my cars in high school was a "46 Desoto, and I sure don't want it back!;) Traditionally, almost nobody messed with more doors unless it was an Anglia etc.

HS cars aside, I'd salvage a dozen more doors to make a 2dr. But that's just me. I understand your case is a little different.

Get 4 buckets from a wrecker and build a custom interior. Drive the moredoor and fix up the hardtop. That and the Merc Marauder are the best looking cars Fomoco ever made!

Another vote to keep the 4 door where it is and build the 2 door. You can always flip a 2 door too if you ever run into trouble or need $ for the family. If you turn the 2 door into a drag car, you can swap good used parts onto your sedan or keep them as spares for your 'driver'.

  21. There were only two of us kids and the only 4 door we owned was a DKW for about a month. Funny thing about kids they are not like adults they can get in the back seat real well.

A lt of the youbnger fella prefer 4 doors and that is that. Most of us older guys would be all over the 2 door and sacrifice the more door in a heartbeat for it.

Well then, sounds like a no-brainer to me. Is this the "sportsroof" -style of Galaxie? If so, that is one of the most beautiful designs by Ford ever. And this coming from a Chevy -man.

I´d think it´d be far easier to find loose seats and interior -parts for a ´64 Galaxie if You so desire, than it´d ever be to find a "solid" 64 Galaxie 2d HT roller body for the price You´re describing.
Besides the front end and mechanicals obviously, I don´t think much else would interchange from Your 4dr.
Keep the 4dr as Your driver while You fix the 2dr the way You most want it.

The front clip, drivetrain, and dash are pretty much all that will swap over to the hardtop. The seats, door panels, and most of the rest of the interior will not, along with the side trim and probably all of the gl***. I'd only do it if the hardtop needed all the things the 4 door has and nothing that it doesn't.

If the 4 door was your high school car, and still runs and drives, I'd have a hard time parting it out. But if a 2 door is really what you want, find a pair of 2 door post doors and jambs from a Custom and swap those onto the 4 door body. Then you still have your high school car and it' s a 2 door to boot.

DKW I had to look that up.

I suspect that if you are like most working folks and you part the 4 door to upgrade the 2 door you will have two non-operable vehicles instead of one, at least for a longer period of time than I could enjoy.

Keep em separate. dont mess with the HS car to chase dragons in the 2 door.
As stated, youll have two cars down and an unhappy wife.
Congrats on the little one and the 2 door.

I picked up the 2 door yesterday. It is in great shape, and not nearly as gutted as i had thought. The interior is complete and all the body trim is sitting inside, It was taken apart for paint. There is no rust through on this car, just a little surface rust here and there, It is in awesome shape. I cant beleive i got this car for $500. The only thing its missing is the bumpers, back gl*** and engine and ******

Sounds like you have a decent project for yourself. Those rear bumpers are hard to find that are not rotted away. Don't be too picky if you find one for it.
