Ooops ! Read it wrong..thought it said coolant in oil..my bad sorry

  6. let me get this straight....you are getting the motor oil into the cooling system , and not coolant into the motor oil? i'm not sure how that could happen on a flathead

Thats right, not coolant into the motor oil!!

  8. cracked block or not...how is the oil getting into the cooling system? i can see a crack block or blown head gasket getting coolant into the oil

From my experience, this is usually a 2-way street, usually the mix is in both the oil and water, amounts may vary though. As usual, a post with little information to go on.

    Guys,
Flatheads don't have oil p***ages in the heads, so a blown head gasket can't transfer engine oil to the coolant.

The only way oil can get into the coolant is a crack "down under" in the valley of the valve train, and even then, I'd think the pressurized coolant would leak into the oil before the oil would leak into the cooling p***ages.

There is no cooling water/coolant in the oil but a lot of oil in the cooling water/coolant.

Keep checking the oil -- add when low.

Either way the engine needs to be pulled and looked at... But it doesn't look good for the old flatty
