When it was first posted only 1-3-5-7 were showing. The readings are there Don. I had them separated but they got bunched up on the posting. I do like the carbon build up. Will see Don
maybe i missed it, but what kind of engine and what car? was this a running engine or sitting somewhere? maybe it doesnt really matter but just trying to get an idea of what were 'looking' at lol.. i would definitely do the wet test also to see if readings change and the leak down to better locate the leaks. inspecting the rockers is also good and will let you know if the valve is sticking..
A leak down test is pretty much a moot point with a dead cylinder. I would just close the valves as best as possible, introduce air (don't need a whole lot with 0 compression) into the suspect plug hole and start listening. Popping the valve cover may reveal something evil and then you don't need to run the above exercise. Bob
You are right about that. I can pump air into my engine pretty quick so I would probably end up doing both. I have holed a few pistons and I didn't really need much testing to know what was wrong. All the smoke kind of tipped me off.
Before I answer I would just like to Thank everyone once again. All that I know is that the car ran very well and then it just started running ill and was missing real bad. Now it just sit's waiting to be repaired. The reason I put it on the board is because the worse head gasket problem I ever dealt with was minor head gasket leaks as compared to this. And on those I had the car in front of me.
Here's my prediction based on these numbers and the comment. " it was running fine , then developed a miss" Cam going flat on 2, 4, and flat on 6 - not as lumpy on 1, 3, 7, 100 &110 are su****ious low as well and 125 ain't that great but without knowing what motor or standard compression spec should be that's hard to say. Seems like its effecting most of the cylinders and that leads me to the cam.
I'm liking this observation. See I'm trying to have the party working on this to see things are not always just as they seem.
I agree, gotta be something systemic, like the cam. And all on the even # bank. I'd be real curious how much oil was getting to that side of the engine. Bob
324 Olds, whats the oil galley lay out on those for the lifters? Is it similar to that of a SBC or do they feed the crank first then the cam bearings and lifter galley? Does the oil travel back to front or front to back?
Yes. It's a wrap! #6 cyl had a burned valve, we didn't trust any of the others so we decided just to step up and replace em all. Guides were done as were the seats w/hardened units. decked the heads and put it all back together!!! Did a rebuild of the carb as well. We're still working out the bugs and it now has a new dual exh.
Thx Doug, You are the Man! These pretty much tell the story of the fail. Adriene's 56 is all back together and awaiting some powder and make up. After that some new clothes.
Ok!, Freeze!, put down the hair dryer before anybody gets hurt . Have you been styling behind our backs and not telling us . Then!, I can see it now, a wrist mounted pin cushion to boot. LMAO, you know I kid the hell out of everyone. Can't wait to see it all done.
