Well we own a game store in our little town and I went in to open a little early to price some merchandice and smelled smoke, looked around and didn't see anything. I went back to the storage room and instantly smelled it again. When I looked again smoke was coming out of one of the A/C vents in the middle of the store. I started toward the door and a 10 ft round area of the ceiling above my head burst into flames. I had to run under it to get to the exit! The fire dept arrived within a few minutes but did nothing till the flames had gotten through the 3 day old roof and when it was all said and done 70% of the roof and all the ceilings were on the floor in the store. Pretty much a total loss. Luckily it happened 5 minutes before I opened and no one was in the store but me. If it had happened a couple of hours later there would have been between 20 and 40 kids in the store!!

We were in the process of adding on and the new section was about 10 days from completion.

That's horrible, I'm so sorry. That is one of my greatest fears. I am glad you got out safe and grateful that there weren't any kids in there when it happened.

Thanks! The scary part is that from the time I smelled the smoke the first time till it was almost completely engulfed in flames was about 3 minutes!

Damn, that really ****s! But as you and others have pointed out, it could have been a LOT worse! Anytime I smell smoke in my home, I start looking and am not satisfied till I find the source. With Insurance, you can rebuild, but the fear will always be there. What type of store did you have?

You mentioned that the Fire Department didn't do anything for a few minutes-any reason why?

I have no Idea, but they were there for at least 10 minutes, moving very slow, before the first drop of water was used and I think they could have saved most of the building if they had acted faster.

The first pic I posted was the last I took. The rest of the roof to the right in that pic went up as well!

OH, NO!!! I'm SO sorry to hear about this!!! I was just down the street around 11:30, at the post office...when did this happen?

I noticed that you were adding on when we drove by last week. I really feel for you and the frustration/disappointment you're dealing with now!

If I can help you with anything, let me know.
