I been snoopin around on this forum and found some dam good info here glad I joined. I just got a 55 ford customline and its my first 6 volt car never did a 12 volt conversion before . Now the guy I work with says just pop in a 12 volt battery and a 1 wire gm alt and Iam good to go. Is it that easy? Thanks
Welcome from PA. Not sure on the conversion though. My 56 Plymouth is a 12 volt car. 56 was the first year for 12 volts in plymouths.
Welcome....the conversion is a little more than that. All bulbs will need replaced...or they will blow in a short time. Gauges will need a voltage drop. Most Fords up to the early 70's used 6 volt gauges. What they used looks like a small relay. Your starter will burn up eventually too. Basically anything that is electrical should be 12 volt or have a resistor to drop the voltage. Wires are fine...as long as they are in good shape. Clark
