this is from member 777, who helped me out with some history in the '40s period correct hot rods' thread:

Mid 30's groupings, before the begining of The ***ociation, would have looked like this:

    Cl*** A was 80-90 mph

    Cl*** B was 90-100mph
    Cl*** C was 100-120
Cl*** D was +125 mph ( When Cl*** D was added, A was dropped. This was in the very late 30's or possibly 1940).

But the A-D generally did not get written onto the car. The car would have been ***igned a semi- sequential number based on the speed grouping, pre-registration or sequential event registration ie. first come first served type of numbering.

I think around 1940, the subset cl*** letters started showing up with the numbers. And soon after that, the letters denoted engine displacement rather than MPH bracket.

    73B is my number :) :)

I picked it because it the year I was born and the B is for Banger or Bill

The other cool reason is its also
    Paul Howard's # flipped
He would have been the 1st one to sign up for this show and the 1st one to hit the sand with his roadster.

I hope Paul's kids bring and run his car.

For the guys that do not have numbers on the side of there cars. How are you going to number your car?
Man up and paint the ****ers on or ***** out and use stickers or magnets.

I am up in the air.... Be a man and paint them on my Henry ford paint or ***** out and have some magnets
made. Stickers would peel off all my old paint so they are out.

white shoe polish will come off pretty easily when you're done with it.

    Bill,

I checked the calender, and it looks like I'm goin'! It is always great to have a reason to get back to the shore! Wish I had the wagon finished, but if this becomes an annual event, maybe next year?

    Sorry Bill,

Asbury was not the part of the shore where I grew up. I've been there before, but I am not familiar with places to stay.:( The closest I've stayed is in Seagirt, and that was a small motel.

You think electrical tape would work?
Probably sticky enough to stay on but not to take off your paint.

  27. You have to register your number with me! So far, all you guys will be fine. But register if you have yet too!

Shoe polish it on! Lets not crowd the tread with a debate about **** guys. Shoe polish is the way they did it then, it's the way will do it now. Paint it on if you like.

  28. Jerseyboy, glad your making it!

  29. My buddy Travis,"Tuki"... Sent me these pics of some guys in Japan racing on the beach this weekend. Looks like fun!

    Interesting pics...

That is different sand than what I have run on. Look at the pic of the T pickup parked up by the gr*** dunes. That should be soft like powder, and should have showed sand color halfway up the sidewalls of the tires. The sidewalls are clean, so they don't have soft sand getting onto the beach.

Other pics show they are racing halfway between the high and low tide lines.
