Just as with any event you always wish the numbers were higher. But the main thing is was the event, no matter what size, was what you hoped it would be. In the case of the KKOA Gorilla Stomp show the answer is YES. The show wound up with a total car count of 80 vehicles. 2 were rods, 2 were stockers, and the rest were kustoms. Areas represented were Wisconsin, Illinois, Michigan, Minnesota, Oklahoma, North Dakota. Hope I didn't miss anybody. Jerry Titus from the KKOA thinks we have a good base here and seems cautiously optimistic about the future. So we'll mull things over in the next couple of months and see what we can come up with. One thing mentioned was a date change. Jerry seems to think ealier in the season might work better for this show. If you have any ideas lets here them. Yes we know about the "Back to the 50's" and those events. But are there some other really established major regional events in the early part of June that we should be aware of?? Let us know....:cool::eek::cool::cool:

Seems this part of the year, there is a car show every single weekend in our area. This show actually was on the same weekend as the annual Antigo show... I know, not the same venue, but still will draw some cars and spectators.

I'll be honest, myself and a number of other guys were considering where to go for the weekend, and the gate fee was the main objection. Too steep in this economy was the general opinion.

There was a 500+ car show in Holmen and a 450+ car show in Spring Green. I agree with the timing idea....Earlier may be better. Like May-ish maybe????

The venue is GREAT, the cars were FANTASTIC and the date is just fine.

why go earlier? Just because Titus likes to have 112 degree weather for another of his shows, doesn't mean we need the heat in WI. Heck, the weather was PERFECT.

That name is just plain dumb. Come up with a name that suggests what the show is.

but if you want to change something, change the way you go about promoting the show. ZERO promotion will get you nowhere.

Promote at Back to the 50's and you will get lots of great cars from MN
Ask John Wells for his insight and assistance
Cliffy does a great job of promoting his show at Symco.

or better yet, just dump KKOA and run the show yourself.

I enjoyed myself, and would be happy to attend next year. I would also be happy to help promote the show.

like I said, the cars were FANTASTIC

Want a predominate number of Kustoms? Promote it heavily. LOSE the gorilla deal. Ask any producer of movie/tv, animals and kid's always steal the show. Make it clear this is a customs show not the generic 'car show' where PC means any car period. Visuals help too. People are dumb down today. Educate them. Yes, a ton of work. Ask the Chrome Czars.

It's the weekend after the Symco Shakedown, this coming weekend is Cheaterama and after that is Rumblefest. I agree that you need an earlier date. There's really no Wisconsin custom shows early in the year. If you made it in May or June, it could become the first destination of the year for everyone's new builds.

I'd love to bring one of my cars there, but I honestly can't afford to hit 4 shows in a row like that. The timing is poor.

Also, Bobwop makes a great point about promotion. Nobody in my circle really knew about the show. I asked a lot of people at Symco if they were going to KKOA and every answer was "What/Where/When is that?"

I personally would pick a new, earlier date, then really promote the hell out of it as being the first must-attend custom car show of the season for Wisconsin.

I don't think you can count on it growing just because it has KKOA attached to it. But it could be great.

What were the gate fees at the two shows? (I'm gathering info for planning an event next year)

OK - I'm sure I'm going to catch hell for this. Then again maybe nobody will reply at all. But we're all big boys here so I'm sure most will take this for what it is. If you read through these remarks most of the negative remarks on the event is because of the name or they come from people who were not there. Those who were there at least had some constructive positive remarks. Just sayin' .....;););)

say it like it is, Tski, and nobody will give you hell.

I sure hope you have a show next summer, but you guys really need to promote it.

Heck, we had over 400 cars at the Cruise Night in Fort Atkinson tonight

If you had a show with 1500 cars in Wisconcin five miles from the gorilla stomp, I`d still go. KKOA is about Custom Cars. That`s what they promote.

  15. Hey man your show, your promotion ideas, call it what you want - right !

But I have to ask how is that working out ?
    Didn't sound too good.
Try something different, seems to work for the other guys.

I've never heard of the "gorilla stomp" before. The first thing my mind conjured up was a zoo with shit splattered everywhere. Maybe its just me because my honey thought it was some kind of hip hop gangster rap line dance.

  16. Car count doesn't make for a good show. Yes, name is important. It could be better but it could be worse too. Most everyone I know doesn't give two shits about how many cars as long as the quality of what is there is good and there is stuff to do at the show. Iola car show as point. 9 out of ten people have no idea there is a car show going on. It is a swap meet for most. I met someone two years ago who just camped in the campground and had no idea there was a swap meet or car show there. They had been coming for 5 years or more I guess.

  17. Here's an idea. Why don't you get with a Harley Dealer or better yet, the Harley Museum.
I've seen some cool custom cars and bikes at their shows in the Milwaukee area.
You can throw this idea in the trash if you don't like it - just trying to help.

the quality of cars at the Monkey Shit Splatter Show was VERY good.

no sense coming up with any new ideas. While John may listen, Titus sure won't.

  19. I think the name kept attendance down...wtf is a Gorilla Stomp?
Maybe the Dairyland Detour would have sounded more car like!

OK gang here's the deal. We got everybody, and I mean everybody kickin' our poor ape in da head. Now I'm going out of my way here and I know Titus won't see this for about three months yet because he is busy, trust me on that. So let's sneak one in here. When we started this out, over two years ago, we had an event naming contest. I cannot recall what some of the names were but there were some good ones. This Ape one got sent in by a Mr. R.B Johnson and was picked by some of the KKOA officials. OK - that was then, this is now. If we do continue this, keyword IF, let's do the naming thing again. Now i'm not going to promise anything spectacular in return but maybe we'll just name the event after you, FOREVER. You will get a free registration into the show for 2013 and your name will forever be linked to this event. It will be the ---------, ----------. Wanna run with it ??? E-Mail me the names. After the names start coming in I'll post them. Your replies will decide the winner. I'll post the event names and not who suggested them.
