  2. I can tell from 1st hand experience, whom ever the owner was at the time of the theft, is who owns it now. ***les or BOS mean nothing, no matter who issued them. I got a car back a year after it was stolen, sold 3x and issued an official state ***le (NOT duplicate!) It still belonged to me and I got it back.

Depending on how ownership was recorded then, it may get problematic, but the rightful owner is not negated by time even if it was in the possession of some family since 1974.

sounds like one of those movies where you don't like any of the characters.

It will be interesting to hear "the rest of the story" as Paul Harvey used to put it.

  5. whats with florida and rare corvettes? 1953 corvette #29 was involved in a fraud scheme, some one built another car and used the #29 vin because it had been out of the system for so long. somebody who knew the where abouts of the real one saw the "new"one for sale and blew the whistle.

So Briggs Cunningham drove it...it's not like he won, or even finished. Sounds like another case of pointless hero worship out of the Corvette world.

I'd be more impressed if Richie Cunningham drove it.

Too bad about the ownership issues. As race cars keep climbing in value, the more we will keep seeing this kind of stuff. I wonder how many race cars are tucked away for this reason?

Great car and very neat history. Anyone have any more photos of it during it's racing days?

Man you can't judge the guy who bought it just yet, if he coughs up this car it could go into impound, litigation, etc. and he could never get it back. If I bought a historical hotrod, race car, what ever in what I thought was a legit situation you would have to pry it from my hands and I'd do a little time for obstruction if it kept my car safe till I or my lawyer could prove my inocence, or at a min get my money back and then some. If the family can produce a ***le that proves the car belongs to them I would think they would at least be willing to provide a handsome reward!

A good buddy has some sort of dealings about this, he got purposely vague so i didn't ask particulars but from what i gleaned the most recent past possessor - who also had a ***le - has it on display friday evening with 100 invited guests, just prior to the public display at carlyle, and here comes the rightful owner with proper ***le. **** hits fan. The car disappears and is sold after the rightful owner has made claim to the car, the new owner has yet to come forward but i suspect he is settled in with his attorney. The irs is also looking to speak with the seller. I don't think any formal legal charges have been posted, as yet.

I would think a ***le beats a bill of sale any day of the week ***uming the ***le is legit.

Well whoever ends up with it, I hope it gets restored to its former Lemans beauty. That thing looks like poopie as it sits.

Ooooh, a deceased ol' time judge who was a pack-rat and got tossed out of the court for racial comments and his son who didn't even know about the car but found it in a warehouse and what it was worth after an internet search in one corner. Supposedly no ***le.

In the other, another deceased guy (of color) who was the owner of record and had the car stolen in roughly the same time frame as the judge bought it (?), and his son gets a fresh ***le for it 8/17/2012, or roughly a week after articles like this are published.

Oh, and the big-time vette guy and his anonymous buyer who are currently holding...

I think ugly is the only direction this is going, and it looks like it's going to go through many intersections with ugly side streets.

Thanks for the update Lance. Best of luck to you.

  19. Yes, good luck Lance
The more that comes out, the more questionable the "stolen" claim seems....especially with the players involved

My guess is that if the police showed up, somebody posted a bunch of money to have it confi****ed by the sheriff, and placed in a storage facility until ownership is determined.
    Just a guess.

racelance, please allow me to apologise for repeating what had been reported.
I still say this sounds like a huge ugly mess, I hope it can be resolved.
