WHAT THE-----??? where on Earth did you find that thing??? looks like a 4 door 50 Buick turned pickemup. am i right?? got any better pics? why don't YOU buy it and build it into a shop truck??
it's one pic of a whole bunch that some guy posted on another forum...he's from somewhere in the great lakes region.
I saw a 1/24 scale model once of a 59 El Camino with the appropriate Buick sheetmetal (plastic??) attached. That is something someone SHOULD build 1:1.
there is more than one? now i'm REALY curious. someone has to know about these things. what are they and who built them???
I have the extra 59 Buick front clip and Im just waiting for a cheap elco to proceed. Oh and some money, definitly gonna need some money.
In my chevy repair manual for my 51 it shows a Ute version, basically the wagon with the back half whacked off and a pick up bed in place. I have seen some pictures of them in Austrailia. I have a 51 more door (actually two) and my parts car is going to be chopped into something like that. Here is my concept,
heh...I guess the lesson here is that it is easy to make them look funky! The one in the pic I posted has pretty good proportions, although it looks like they didn't do a very good job grafting the pickup back roof onto the 4dr roof. At least it looks better than the blue Buick with the real short sloping roof, which looks like a 4dr that got the back of the top moved forward too far. The bed on the blue Buick looks spiffy though.
This is old news.....but, my Vo-Tec teacher built this one back when the car was new for a handicapped guy that used to live in this area. I would have liked to build it, but it would be alot more work than I'm ready to tackle. I think alot of these were built because the trucks of the day had no creature comforts and were too rugged for some people. Basically they were trying to accomplish what the manufacturers finally did, comfort and style.
That's a neat truck! the beds on those buicks look a lot nicer, but the Olds with the pickup bed dropped in was probably easier to build.
