I need to swap axles and may have found a suitable replacement but I cannot take measurements on my car right now. Does anyone know what size (axle width) from drum to drum will fit my 1950 ford coupe? Thanks! Oh, and is a versailles rear end 58" or 60"?
This link has a bunch of measurements on it. http://www.teufert.net/other/rear end dimensions.htm Eric
Shoebox is 57 inches between wheel mounting surfaces not 47". A Maverick 8 in. 5 -lug is a near perfect fit. So is 57-59 Ford 9".
Hello gentlemen, a bit of grave digging here. I'm preparing the plan for the '51 resto, and as to get easier spares and better reliability than a 70 plus year old rear end the most common option for us here is the Dana 44, followed by the Ranger 4.0 V6 8.8 Ford. We have the Dana 44 with the width of 1302 mm (more or less 51" 1/4" ) from spindle to spindle. From this topic I understand we have have up to 59 in of space on the rear of the car. I saw on some random Youtube video that the space required for brakes would be around 1/4"? It seems a bit too little to me. How much width do you estimate I'd need for some small / narrow disc brakes on the rear?
