So I was looking through an old issue of Scale Auto and came across this diorama article about junkyard scenes. It was way cool, and instantly I was inspired!! I had an art attack!! bbbaaahhhha!!

    So I got to work.

First I went to Wal mart and bought a few sheets of canvas, I took a sheet and brushed on regular white glue as a base, mixed a few different colors and grades of sand (used for blasting) and packed it down against the glue on the canvas. When it dried, that "crust" was a nice base but sand was still way too loose. I mixed about 50/50 white glue and water in a jar, and brushed it on the sand. When that dried it was hard as a rock. It was too shiny (the glass in the sand) and didn't look right, so i mixed some Testors flat, military, and some other browns together and 'dabbed' different shades and colors around till i thought it looked like earth.

Considering I'm a Chevvie guy, a rotten FOMOCO was the only vehicle of choice! I took a busted Ford and dremel'ed it like crazy, cutting the trim so it looked like it was hanging off, cutting the panels from the inside paper thin making it look rusted out. A lighter melted the roof a bit and pushing on it made it look like dents. Black primer was a nice base, mixed with red oxide primer and a final coat brushed on mad it look rusty. I used the guy from a 69 Camaro diecast i bought and cut the base off and re-painted him to look *gasp!* like me! Same shoes, hooker headers tee, and lamb chops. What a fag I know- I was bored. Anyways, the local dollar store supplied the 'dollhouse' fencing which a glued together and painted, and a dead branch from the back of the shop here made a good tree. The weeds and grass where also a dollarstore buy, used for flower arangements I guess.

I fasened everything down using paperclips and super glue. The hardest thing to do was getting the 'grass & weeds' to glue down. Again white glue mixed with water worked, but it took like 10 coats.

All in all, it took me about 2 weeks, and maybe 12 hours in total to build. It cost me no more than $15 in materials too.

    I know... I'm a loser [IMG]

Nice diorama, nice photos. But Bryan I thought maybe you'd post that Filpansick (or whatever it was called) poster. That's some sweet art.

Thanks guys.... seriously it was a joke to build. I still have lots of materials left over so I might do a 'rod themed' rust in peace scene.

I was going to add a caption on the base that said "Good Hands, Bad taste in Cars" a quote from the movie Christine, but Christine was a plymouth so I didn't do it.

A new t-shirt design. Needs a little cleaning up. Should have my screen-printing shop up and running in the next week or so.

Fred, Dude, it's good to see you smearin' paint again.

Well this isn't done but it's all I have gotten to work on this week. I had this big orange piece of plexi in my pile and it just kept sayin "Dreamsicle" to me.
Soooo... I painted a frozen confection on it. Well I thought, what goes with that, "Why, flames of course!". Then I thought, "what a great chance to practice lettering!". And the Fire & Ice cream idea popped into my head. It's not done yet, and isn't even remotely car related but it reinforced my wifes opinion that I may going nuts. lol

Both shows are great this week, I'll post the finished product nex week.

    George

OK, so I'm a little late...
Desk Top Art Work #46 is an ordered car and is a 37 Chevy Sedan. I've gotten a few new car orders in the last few days, looks like I get to bore you guys with more of my insanity for a while to come. I'll be building a late 30s Ford coupe, A 70s Mavrick (Customers order) and a 62 Ford sedan over the next few weeks. Gene
