Those big trucks look even bigger when they are right on your *** at a light...lol I drove for 20 years and did the same to quite a few cars, guess they are just paying me back ha ha
but my car is so tiny.........it'd be like a bug on that grill, speaking of which that was all I could see was bugs on that grill in my rear view

It always scared me a little when I was driving on the interstate and an 18 wheeler would p*** me and his tires were higher than my car. I've seen those big pieces of tire laying on the highway and sure wouldn't want to be next to one when it blew.

They scare the **** outta me,I usually pull over to the next lane and let them go about their merry way!

Here in South Carolina we call the big chunks of tire sprawled out in the middle of the road INTERSTATE ALLIGATORS and to hit one or have one come off as he p***es you is nothing short of terrifying.

I had a friend who ran over one at about 55 MPH boxed in between two semis as they p***ed him on both sides at night in the rain and his 34 3 window was almost destroyed,,he was lucky to escape un****hed.

When my kids were playing in the high school band we drove our van to a compe***ion carrying all the ice chest and food for the kids and a semi lost a huge strip of rubber that caught the front grill ,drivers side headlight, fender and windshield on our van,,,I came close to loosing control.

Thankfully we were not hurt but the old van suffered almost 4000 bucks in damages. HRP

Yup, those tires are even with my head, I think my car might fit under a trailer if I laid the windshield down ha .
That guy was behind me even when it changed down to a 2 lane rd and of course I needed to make a left hand turn.
With the car only weighing 1840 lbs it likes to get pushed and ****ed by the big rigs while on the hi-way too. I had two in a row p*** me on the QEW in Canada one year, that was a pants staining event if ever there was one. Just as the one is pushing me towards the shoulder and I'm counter steering a bit, the other came along and was trying to **** me under it !

One of the main reasons I stopped riding motorcycles. Ever have a hawk dive bomb right in front of you at 100 mph. Yep. I clear the big rigs every chance I get.

was riding in a 48' chevy panel and had a semi tire cap hit the front of the panel and damm near ripped it off, spun us off the road and when we got out we couldn't believe it. guy stopped that had seen it a got the info off the cement truck and they payed to fix it as the driver saw it and called his dispatch and said he thought he wiped out someones rig. he would have stopped but his other driver that was following slowed down and let him know nobody was hurt except the panel.

Good thread. I sometimes get next to a big rig at a light. All I can do is look over and wonder what my brother would say at the funeral.

  9. Does the rig in the rear view mirror look like the cover of the movie duel? On my way to work and home I got a ton of the tomato & fruit trucks driving in town, I avoid them and the trucks on the freeway.

Their rear dual wheels will also grab things of the right size and throw them forward at 2x the vehicle speed! I learned this when my OT car's windshield exploded in my lap as I p***ed a truck. The tires geabbed a bottle and threw it at me!

There is stupid behind the wheel every where.

I used to drive my OT Karmann Ghia all year. It does fit under a semi trailer and when one p***es you on the highway in powdery snow, you can't see anything for 10 seconds, and no one can see you. Your life is literally in someone elses hands.

You guys are stuck with them. Without trucks, America stops.

Since everyone wants everything the next day there are more trucks on the highways and the train system has been let go down hill and replaced with bike paths,I have no problem with the trucks since it gives someone a job but they need to do something about the retread tires that come apart.

Waiting for a family of 4 or a Congressman's kid to get killed. Then, "60 Minutes" will be all over it.

One thing about sitting that close to one at a light, I have spotted a lot of bald tires. I mean a LOT.

Bald tires is not a new problem, look at the pics in the thread vintage shots of days gone by or what ever the correct ***le is and look at the trucks in the pics of the 30s,40s and possibly the 50s and you will see nothing but bald tires.

True. Here in Houston, the city or DPS drives around looking for them. But they can't be everywhere.

  20. Yup, on call right now and have guys working all weekend hauling fuel so the rest of the nation can play!

Like I said I drove for over 20 years, I have nothing against trucks. I just thought it was a good photo op, he knew what he was doing creeping up. I also knew what he was doing because I've crept up to the point you can only see the front half of someones roof..lol

My brother went down on his Harley doing 70 on the interstate when a truck lost his retread right in front of him. Lucky he survived and we all know the dangers of these old cars.

Now if you think that video was crazy check out this link of the wheelchair guy stuck in the grill http://www.msnbc.msn.com/id/1908897...chair-user-taken-wild--mph-ride/#.UEKx2UJ5nHg

  22. As far as blowouts, I saw a semi in the opposite lane lose a trailer tire and it lifted the trailer WITH a BACKHOE on it off the ground. Had the radio up and windows up and it still sounded like a cannon in my cab at 50mph.

My daughter used to drive an ****** to college out of state. One year on the way home she was behind me coming through Detroit and as i looked in the mirror I could see her little ****** with a semi nearly pushing her. That car looked so small, all i could see all the way around her was semi grill, that i sold it when we got home and bought her a more substantial car.
Speaking of semi tires coming apart, my brother was behind a semi while pulling his 16 foot trailer and the semi's trans exploded! His van went over a couple ge****ts and he lost two tires on the van and two in the trailer...if one of those sets of gears had bounced and gone through the windshield............:(

    Been there...done that!
Hoping to do it again in my own Modified. Someday...
Pretty scary stuff when you think about it.
Still though...its worth the risk to live life on your own terms.
These little Hot Rods are built to be driven, if you built them right.

Can't let a little thing like the potential for instant death throw you off your enjoyment! ;)

Biggest rush fitz and I had this last trip was watching the car in front of us p*** thru a collection of tire carc*** on the highway and suddenly pick up something big and black in the dead air zone behind the car!
It stood up straight and square, with us aimed right at it...no real chance to avoid it, and then it gently laid down flat on the pavement again seconds before we drove right over it.

It was the full ripped off mud flap from the truck that had lost the tire earlier!

I can only imagine the damage hitting it edge on would have done to the little T...or worse...to US, if it had been pulled up higher by the car in front of us.

Whatever...makes for a good road story when you get home!!! ;)
    No worries.
