I always wondered if you would see more of this in the US if you could only have one car because to get a second is just to expesive and it is cheaper to keep updating and redoing your prized possession. I know that if I only could have one car it would look different all the time. I just couldn't stop playing with it. The nice thing is I have quite a few car to keep me busy and I am just happy when one gets "done" [IMG]. Just a thought...

No doubt though this guy has skills and is a student of custom/hot rod history as well as a excellent concept designer. Something that is hard to find in one person.

Whether you like the style of "Rod"riguez #1 or #2 is one thing, but you cannot knock the workmanship of that car, period. I've seen both incarnations in person, and can easily say it beats the hell out of most period-style hot rods built here. Unfortunately, Junichi says he doesn't drive it (runningboards too low), but may put helper bags in the back. Of the handful of actual builders in Japan, Junichi has full grasp of style and craftsmanship...but more importantly he is without "rodder-tude" and probably the most humble guy you'll ever meet.

  5. I can't fault the appearance of wonderful workmanship and great paintwork BUT! When the 60's ended, I was as giddy as a little school girl.. I celebrated the end of gaudy show cars. Never wanted to see another bright, shiny, non-functional collection of chrome and painted parts...[then the 70s lace paintjobs came along...ya cant' win] and what do I see before me? A 60's show car. Sorry, I seem to be in the minority on this but I don't care for it at all...looks like a massive waste of time and paint & plating to me.
    Less is more!

Some people live to create show cars... and in that respect, I think the Rod-riguez has come a long way. It looks better all the time... some cars are just meant to be shiney. [IMG]

They are really into the old skool 40's style. THey build some awsome bobbers too. What gets me is that they are copying the style of cars and bikes that guys in the 40's ,that were returning from WW2, were biulding. Guys that had just got home from kicking "thier" Grandma's and Grandpa's ass's in the Big War. I know that was a LONG time ago. I just think its ironic. But thats just my opinion!

    I'm always out of step!

The Ala Cart and the Matador are about as far from Henry's design that I can take. You could drive them.

Beautiful metal sculpture, but I don't get into modern art either. Give me a Tom Fritz painting. please!!!!! [IMG]

    You asked!

I like the car.... if there is not helper bags on it now, it is low.. Does he put the fenders on after he gets it off the trailer? I like the new version better as it is less "Lowrider" and more 60's style... I think he needs to do more to the engine induction... The car is so wild but the engine so tame....

I think its an awesome piece of machinery! It could rightfully park (on a wad of angelhair) next to Moriaritys Futurion.. [IMG]
I like both the fact that its a sixtiesstyle showrod wich with a nice ballance between period-perfectness and fresh thinking, I like the attention to detail and buildquality, and I like the the improvements done between the two pics.
Is it show-only and not driven? Well, so was Lil Coffin and Beatbik Bandit.

We're always astonished by the car which he makes.I think that he invested a large sum of money in this rod...but,He gives us a dream.I like his act.I respect him. Then, his smiling face is nice.

... I'm not sure about the running board things... I'm not much for stuff that adds nothing to the function of something. Same with the rad shell... But thats just me.

Do like the exhaust... pretty trick.

Yeah, you're right..."everything" should be completely functional and practical. Maybe everyone should just build '32s with red steelies, huh?

I love it. it's no more or less functional than 98% of what I've seen.

I'll tell you what, if someone 's gonna eat your lunch, it should be someone as talented as these folks are. looks like there's an entire city's worth of spare time in that machine.

If you think about it. We all had that special car in our past that inspired us to do what we do. Some of these vehicles may have very well been the coffin and futurion. It's not the fact that it needs to be functional but the important thing is that it needs to inspire. That's exactly what creativity is all about. How can a vehicle like that not inspire a young boy or girl who someday may just be here on the Hamb or better yet Monster Garage [IMG]
I can tell you from someone who didn't especially like the custom vehicles in the 60's. The fender design, exhausts and front end inspires me.......
Hows this for inspiration???????? [IMG] [IMG]

I Like it ALOT better than the first version, which was nice too. Lemme tell ya why. First version seemed just a bit mixed up stylewise, and I didn't care for the WWW's on it at all. But NOW what I saw in the first version is coming together beautifully! It just looks 100% better too me now. The angle chop makes the whole car! And to those who didn't like the fenders(AWESOME!!!!) They don't actually appear any lower than any other part of the car which I seem to remember everybody thinkin was So cool and not one bit too low before. Man they're Slick! They're 60's radical an perfectly shaped and proportioned to My eyes. Still needs induction work, so I'm gonna guess having left such an important detail to be finished, there's even More Cool stuff comin for this one!!!

i think it is badass , I think I liked the first version better , I liked the brown / green combo alot . but as a finnished car it is pretty fucking cool . I dont see why anyone would assume it isnt a driver , is there a trailer somewhere in the photo i cant see . . . ? i will asume that it is driven and just be happy with that [IMG]

It was certainly driven in its first configuration. I saw it at a show in Yokohama (probably just shy of a couple of hundred miles from Nagoya where the owner lives). I took the mickey, as he'd scuffed a whitewall whilst going thru a toll gate booth on the entrance to the expressway.
MAL - Once again you've provided exceptional quality photos - Thanks !
