So I got a guy who's willing to sell a 57 Bel Air 2 dr htp. It needs the top replaced due to rot along the rain gutters. The front clip is missing, the rearend missing, interior missing and the back quarter on 1 side needs some serious work or possible replacement. It comes with a 56 Pontiac 2 dr hardtop that has a good roof and interior window moldings as well as enough other good sheetmetal to fix 90+ of whats bad on the 57. So basically, when I got done fixing the 57 with the parts off the other car, I'd have a solid shell that needed the interior, front clip, running gear etc. The 57 does have a good frame and I have a rearend sitting around I could throw in it. I did not take pictures as originaly we couldn't make a deal anywhere close. I talked to him today and he's down to $800.00 for both. Does this sound like a great deal, fair deal or bad deal. I am not afraid of welding but I don't have tons of money. For some reason the idea of saving this poor old car gets me going. Am I crazy? Should I run away? Give me your thoughts. FWIW I do have a 57 4 door sedan that I was going to convert to a 2 door as I have all those parts. If needed, I guess I could use some of them on this project. I know I'm opening up a can of worms asking for peoples feed back but here goes.
i myself would dig a 2 door bel air hard top , if you can save it i think $800 id be hooking up the car trailer
800 sounds like a deal for this combo, though I personally would fix the 56 pontiac. But that's just me. Jim
Well, I'm glad that I'm getting good feedback so far. I really wanted to hear that I should get it. I've made my fair share of bad buys and didn't want another one. I think I know what I'll be doing tomorrow. Just gotta get out of work now.
OK, here is the naysayer. From the sounds of it that would not be such a deal in my area. But I am not in the rustbelt so I would look for a better one to start with. Sounds like a junker to me. I would fix the Pontiac.
It might still be a bad deal even if it was givin to you if your can't do alot of the work yourself. Sounds like alot of work for a hack like me!
If my memory is correct the Pontiac is pretty beat up. Enough there to save the 57 though plus maybe a little extra to sell off. I'll post some pics as soon as I get them home.
