I've just purchased a instrument/gauge wiring harness from Dearborn Cl***ics which their "vehicle checking system" confirms will fit my 62 Monterey. It took 3 weeks to arrive and now it eventually has, it appears to be wrong. My current harness has the following connections into the firewall plug: brake switch oil sender coolant temp sender coil starter solenoid The harness they sent me has the above but with the additon of: wiper motor neutral safety switch I've contacted Dearborn who are accepting no responsibility and claiming that my car must have been modified Can ayone confirm that this may be the case, or have they sent me a later wiring loom? And if by any chance would it still work when i plug it into the firewall and just tape up the unused connections?
Hopefully this helps, the wiring diagram for a 1962 Monterey. You didn't specify weather you had a 8 or six car, but I ***umed 8.
hey thanks for the help, unfortunately this doesnt really make it any clearer as it doesnt indicate what wires are on the firewall plug
That was the best I could do. I am completely replacing the harness in my '62 Monterey project, so I couldn't even run out into the garage an check for you.
I was going to suggest the harness was for 'stick shift', but the wiper motor negates that, PLUS: Ford harnesses are all one-and-the-same, if the car is equipped with Std transmission, or no A/C, etc., the wires are merely tucked aside and 'tack-taped' to the parallel wire pack. The build sheet tells the line mechanics whether or not to hang the options...the wires are there, and simply not used. Hope this helps: However, if a HAMBER here has a National Service Data book for 1962, it will have a wire diagram that will contain a schematic breakdown of which wires were in that harness. Hope this helps: It has saved me countless times.
Do you have a column shifter? If so, then you should have a neutral safety switch. I believe the Floor shift S55 models had a separate harness for the neutral safety switch. Not sure why your original harness wouldn't have a wiper switch wired in. You can tape off the wiper motor but may need to figure out how to byp*** the neutral safety switch if you don't plan on using it.
That harness is for a column shifted automatic car. The extra wiper wire is for the washer option. My original did not have that wire either, but the replacement does. To byp*** the n/s switch just jump the red wire with a blue stripe together.
