Just figured I would stop in and say HI, This plymouth is in fact mine and Im pretty happy w/ the way the lines came out.The roof was cut 5 in the front and 6 in the back. Length wise it was widened 1.5 in the front and 3 in the back and the rear glass was leaned in from pretty much the original spot. w/ these changes, the rear qtr window ended up about 1/2 the size of the original and now has a cool teardrop shape. Just to give an idea on how much work was involved, I lost track around 75 hrs! This was however my first chop on a non boxy car and Im only 26, so somebody w/ alittle more expierence would definetly get it done quicker. By the way, The windshield is a pain to put back in, After I broke 2 , I paid a guy to do it!

Ok, now I don't care if you don't like it, I really dig this car. I tweeked it a little farther. Cleaned up a few little details and gave 'er some scallops. If this car was live in the flesh parked next to any other make I think it'd hold it's own.....

There is this satin green '52 Dodge from California that just came up to my mind...not a Plymouth but close...that one is REALLY bitchin' and has the stock steel roof chopped and the B-posts leaned forward. The chop is rather mild and the whole car has the same look/vibe like Jesus Villalobos '54 Chevy.I bet these guys are buddies. The car is bagged, runs a beautiful tire and hubcap combo and wears '52-'53 Desoto grille teeth.Anybody have some pics ?

Here is my stab at it.
    - I lowered the roof considerably and made the roofline slope down toward the back quite a bit. The rear quarter window still kept it's large size.
    - I also basically created new rear fenders to match the post.
    - Dropped it a bit and added some Starburst hubcaps from Mooneyes.
    - I took some metal off of the trunk lid to follow the roof line better.
    - Added spot lights
    - Took the rear bumper guards(?) off the bumber.

He's the easy angle - I did the same basic top mods as my previous 'chops - but hardtopped it instead. After I did that I thought, what the hell why not convert that mod into the carson style top - tan leather would look really rich on this baby.
I placed a few more body mods ...well ok, more than a few, I sectioned the car by 4 inches....everyone can do that, right? Then I lengthened the rear fenders and re-radiused the wheel openings. I pulled the bumpers in and shortened the rear one while taking the guards off the front. Frenched the head and tail lights.

...now I'm REALLY fishing for a compliment.

  15. Man, I really don't know what to say. You guys have ruined me now.
I really like the carson top idea. I also like the idea of stretching the rear fenders. Shaving it seems like a no-brainer.
I'll keep looking at all of these in more detail. Its nice to see how others would do it.
Keep up the great work fellas!

    Frenz,
No prob dude, I appreciate the compliment. I have been doing 'chops for this board for a long time - in fact the only reason I know how to use the program is the HAMB. I got hooked on it so much at first that I join a half dozen other boards just to modify pics...

    Knuckles,
I can't speak for the others but in my case you caught me at a good time. I am finished with all of my schooling and I am waiting to hear from my new employer about my work schedule - so basically I have nothing better to do.

I am in a good mood and you had really good, large digi photos to work with. That and I happen to know a guy with one of these cars and I always wondered what I'd do to it if I had it.

Time to wake the dead... this was getting interesting. How did thinks turn out?

I'm prepping to start building mine when I came across this thread. I think I've now looked at every 50 Plymouth related thread.

Cool look but for me I'm not crazy about the look of a chopped 50' Mopar. The tall slab sides look out of proportion with the top unless.....you section it

I agree, which is why I think it´s really important not to over chop these.
Photochop (and section)from a while back.

  26. James, That is a superb 'shop!

I seriously considered sectioning mine but after we chopped it I felt that everything was brought into proportion. Just my thought.
