Hello. I did a search and I was unable to find what I am looking for. I have an opportunity to buy a 1950 Fiat Topolino. Is the 1950 body the same as the earlier ones? Will I be able to use the earlier front end sheet metal on the 1950 body? Best wishes, David.

Post a pic, that would help to determine what will work.

Really?...I am looking for an answer to a question that is certainly within the rules of this forum. Why did you even reply if you do not know the answer? Do you have any idea what a Fiat Topolino is? Do you have any idea how many of these were drag raced, prior to 1964, and beyond? Do you have any idea as to how many Topolinos and Topolino threads are on this board?

I would expect more from an Alliance member, but it just goes to show that anyone can pay a few dollars for a membership....

1936-1948 500 A&B were basically the same,in 1949 they went to a very ugly looking body style. The 1950 is different front and rear

what you don't seem to have a grasp on hotrodarchaeologist is that narrow view points are tolerated even encouraged here...(some nay, most are to be ignored)

  11. None traditioal hot rod?????might want to talk to some of us fiat guys about that..definetly not main stream like..a
    Model A.....

check Tarlo here on the hamb...search out his build.on the hamb...same body as you are talking about...he modified it to look like the classic 37--48. TOPOLINO body style...very nicely done....

so 37 (first year) thru 48 including .....all the same metal..lites and the traficators changed a few times thru here but all th metal is interchangeable...

not a problem. Like what was said, after 48 they changed. So I would say it is different from the early Topolino parts and body style. Although alot of the body parts look very close.

    No.

Blurting out uninformed opinions is not encouraged on the HAMB.

Somebody who is not aware that Topolinos were a pretty big part of Hot Rod history needs to stop posting untill he has educated himself.

Maybe you should too, untill you have informed yourself a bit better about the site you are on...

    I'm pretty sure a '50 is a C model.

Which was not as popular as the A and B's, but they were used.

The earlier grille can probably made to fit ( specially if you build it fenderless ), roof and rear are completely different, I think the doors are the same.

in my defense I saw the fiat name and googled the year. (of course the only thing that came up were dinky looking stockers) with the number of off topic threads lately i figured this went into that category. now that I see the pictures other posted it makes sense. sorry for jumping the gun here. (rookie noob mistake)

The Models a & B are the ones we all love as altereds. The model C started in 1949/50 and is truly hideous.

But back in the 70s, there was a Model C panel van one in Hot Rod with a BBC and looked kind of like a gasser. It looked okay.

Just looked at all the replied & the panel van is the black one a few pikkys above.

And just in case you get offered a stock A or B Topo, here what they look like with guards on them still. (its my wifes toy) Its the one you will be hoping for.

  20. Under the hood they are pretty much the same . If you cut the longer 1950s hood in half the early 1940s round nose will fit. Ofcourse you will have to cut the higher front inner panels away. The 1950s model C is not as ugly as some have stated. The trunk area is a little longer and you will see a big rear bumper panel and sparewheel door. Metalshapes 2nd pic, Outcast 1 , shows a C body with the bumper and sparewheel door removed.

[IMG] I think a fifty can be made to look just as cool as the early 37 to 48 Fiats. The cars that made the best altereds and gassers, were rather homely in their stock form. Fiats,Bantams, Austins, Crosley, Willys, Henry J. to name a few, but make the best looking racecars.

wasn't this car on the cover of Hotrod in the mid 70s , had the name HELLION (sp?) on it, I think it may have had green-yellow flames on it. can't remember that far back good. I think it was one of those dare to be different issues.

Yes, it was on the cover and had green & yellow sea-weed flames at that point. Its actually come up on here a couple times on other threads, I should try to find that issue and post the article.
