Starting next week. I am going to open my shop up on Tuesday nights to those that might need help with a project, need a tool they don't have or just want to learn how to do some fabricating. From 6:00pm to 10:00pm for $25 Dollars I will allow you access to my shop, tools and guidance. Look forward to seeing you. Rules: Every project that comes in that day, leaves that day. Provide your own materials. No drinking between 6 and 10. Dress to work. I am sure there will be more as we get it figured out. If it gets to busy I will do two days a week. Enjoy.
I would say standing around is free, but then I would end up with 30 people talking about doing things and distracting those that would be trying to get some work done. I am trying to create a good atmosphere for those that desire to get some work done and learn, but do not have the means to do so.
Last night was a good night, Erin came out and decided to build a gas tank for her '54 Kaiser, to replace the boat tank in her back seat... Here is what she got accomplished.
glad Tuesday shop night was a success. 25 bucks for 4 hrs in a heated shop with tools and a wild fabricator to coach you is a steal ! looks like a cool truck in the background
Way to go, What its all about,Help your fellow man,get some help and then you help someone else.last week Had a young guy help me do some wiring on a car needless to say I am totally lost on wiring piece of cake for him he would"t take a dimeThanks Buddie. This week I helped and older rodder haul a chevelle homePay it forward!!!!!
To bad it would take 12 hours to work for a nite in your shop . Your doing a great thing for the hot rod community tom good luck!
That's a cool idea but I think my insurance company would have a heart attack if they knew I had "customers" using power tools, ect. Do you have them sign wavers or something to protect yourself from lawsuits? My wife works for an attorneys office so I get to hear every night about lawsuits over stupid people doing stupid things but of course it has to be someone else's fault so maybe I'm paranoid!
It's a place for people to come and learn and have the opportunity to do things on their own, that they would not normally have the place or opportunity to do it.
I agree. There are some mini bike builds slated for Hot Rod Tuesdays... For Bonneville and other excursions.
Last night was another good night... Erin's second time TIG welding and as you can see she is doing really well.
I agree with metaman on signing some kind of waver. Most pick-a-part salvage yards around here do unless they know you well. Just too many ways to get hurt in a shop.
This is a great idea and I hope the thinking spreads to San Diego.. I end up doing things 3 or 4 times and could use the suggestions of a mentor.
She's doing a nice job on that tank. It might be just me, but seeing an attractive girl doing metal work is a turn-on! Love it!!
Wish I had a shop like that (to build motors though) and teach and be teached by others about stuff that I don't already know... It's a great idea!!...
