The rear gl*** regulators in my car are shot and one of my gl***es is cracked, so I'm going to have to perform surgery and correct this. I have four questions.

Are the rear regulators different from the front ones? I have a two door sedan. Are they different for hart ops, four doors, etc? Is there a reman or repop available?

Does anyone know of an online manual that tells you the correct procedure for removing and installing these?

I'd rather take an *** whipping than have to do this.

Thanks. That certainly helps. Now, if I can just find out what kind of regulators I need and then search them out......

Thanks. I have the arms, I ***ume. I wonder if I can do some mixing and matching? Hell, I'm going to have to take the darn thing out and see what's screwed up, I guess.

rockable- I'm in the same bolt- Mine were both seized - and with a lot of pb and elbow grease I was finally able to rock them back and forth until they opened. I should be able to remove them now. Should being the keyword there.

I supposed they're prone to rusting.

I'll be watching this one carefully.

It will be a while before I tackle it, since its not critical.

  8. never seen a rear worn out. Rusted yes from lack of use. they can be rebuilt 99% of the time . and most likely it's some other problem. clean and grease should solve any problem

Agreed. Once you get them out you can probably soak them in some rust remover and/or penetrating lube and get them working again.

You have to pull the interior panel to get them out, and from there it's a simple matter of taking out some screws and monkeying everything around until you get it. Since your gl*** is already cracked you don't have to worry about being gentle.
There is a panel that is tarred in from the factory. (Yes, tar!) Dig out the tar and you'll expose 4 screws.
Warning: when you put it all back together you need to seal that piece again or it will leak water like a sieve whenever the car is in the rain or being washed!

I'm working on window regulators for my '54 Hard Top (Sport Coupe) right now so here ya go. I've been looking at lots of stuff for them.

Ok to answer all 4 of your questions.

    1. Rear Regulators are different than front Ones. On H.T. At least.

    2. Hard Top & Convertable Regulators are different than post cars.

    3. No one repops crank regulators. They do manufacture power Regulators for your car.

4.Google "1953 Fisher body service 6 Vol 12" that's real good stuff for H.T. or Convertable.

And when your done you will think you just took an *** Whipping by a midget.

    Good Luck!

Keep us updated on your progress!!!

Well, thanks to dubie54, Ron DuBois, I now have a nice pair of regulators. Now I just need a round tuit.

Removed the quarter windows yesterday and found that the sash channels were just rusted out. They had pulled loose from the gl*** and when I tried to roll them up, it put pressure on one point and caused the gl*** to break.

Surprisingly the regulators are fine. Just needed a little lubrication. Now I have a spare pair. :)

Also, I removed all the window tint. This makes the car look a lot better.....and I will be able to see at night. Also, I can wave back at all those people giving me thumbs up without rolling the windows down. :D

Does anyone know which of the sash channel brackets goes to the front? There is a tapered one and a square one. I had a buddy help me take them out. We were talking and I was not paying attention since they had pulled off the gl***.:p

Does anybody know if the 2 dr. and 4 dr. sedan use the same regulators front/rear?
