when painting a car what do pros use to be sure its clean just before painting ? ............. thanks .. steve
I wash everything down twice, first with 50/50 wax and grease remover and water, then straight wax and grease remover.
thank you . i normally wipe it all down with brake kleene , but was curious what real painters use ................... steve
Blow everything off real good with air, and then wipe it down with wax and grease remover. Make sure you use rags that dont leave lint behind. Then blow it off again, while wiping it down with a tack rag at the same time.
I'd be afraid to "blow it off" as I would want the SMALLEST amount of dust in he air possible. Tack rags are what you seek for the final wipe.
Blow if off, use a compressed air can with a good wax and grease remover with a lint free towel. Then go over it all with a tack cloth right before you're about to spray.
I use PPG Dx330 wax and grease remover. I wipe the whole car down, from top to bottom. Then I use a tack rag and wipe the car down, including the masking paper from top to bottom before I pant.
I've used grease and wax remover , and got fish eye , I'm sure it was cheap product tho' ..But, over the years , (and because I'm thrifty), I get the standard blue paper shop towels , and the wal mart brand (super tech) carb cleaner , fold the towel in quarters, and spray LIGHTLY on the towel , not the car, and wipe a couple swaths with the towel , go to a clean spot on towel and repeat, open the fold and repeat , NEVER saturate the wipe , you are just dusting , If you do it right you will see a very light moisture haze , that disappears almost immediately, AND , NEVER OVERUSE THE SAME WIPE , one towel is only good for maybe 8 strokes , then keep those used towels for cleaning other messes in the future , I have tried other brands , and cleaners , but, many leave a residue , SUPER TECH evaporates clean , I use this **** cleaning everything , I wish walmart would gimme a kickback , this stuff was 73 cents a can , now it's $1.97
ok i do about the same as joe does . i use my leaf blower to blow it off , no grease or water that way ................ thanks all ......... now to get my painter smarter ! (me)
I agree on the Brake Kleen on small parts but not on a whole car .Especialy wheel,ch***is parts ect. If its been sitting for awhile Ill pull it out side and wash it with soap and water first, blow off any water or dust then final wipe with clean disposable towels then tack cloth. Ron
First wash the parts down with a good water based cleaner, DX394. Once wiped off completely wash with wax and grease remover, DX330. Wipe off completely. Washing with just wax and grease remover doesn't get rid of anything that is water based. IE: hand prints, coffee stains etc. Remember the cleaner the job the better the paint will come out and look afterword.
