Projects Prepping paint for pinstriping

Discussion in 'The Hokey Ass Message Board' started by Mike Britton, Sep 3, 2012.

  1. OK, I have a question for all you pinstripers.
I have a thread here, "gloss from satin paint", where I bought an old Ford where someone really screwed the paint job up.
Here's my question. I've heavily waxed the parts of my car where I got gloss out of the paint. How do you folks prep the paint for striping? I have to assume that most of the cars that you stripe have wax on them. When I go to a show,and/ or find a striper, have I mucked everything up by heavily waxing my car?
Got to be something you do. Thanks, Mike

Pretty sure you have to wipe the areas to be striped with a degreaser/wax remover. Think they do that automatically anyway.

As drs47 said, the pinstriper should wipe it down with wax and grease remover before pinstriping. It would be a good idea for you to do it beforehand just to be on the safe side.
