Picked up the 60 wagon a couple of days ago. I should have my check list done by tomorrow and start off for Indy on Wednesday. Inline 6 with 3 on the tree. I will try to post some pictures tomorrow.
Was that the suede blue with flames 60 here in Tacoma or the bronze/white bagged 60 ? Have a fun trip !
rob, it is the blue suade 60. Actually, I bought it off HAMB. You can see it in the cl***ifieds by searching "Brookwood". Put a new set of tires on the wagon, changed the oil and external filter on the 235, greased it and checked everything I could think of. I am originally from the Tacoma area so I visited family for a couple of days and some high school buddies. One of them has a salvage yard and he provided a couple of extra rims and mounted up two of the tires that were on the wagon, so I have two spares. I brought a set of basic tools with me via checked baggage on the plane out and picked up some things at the local parts store----gallon of anti freeze, two gallon water jug, a couple of quarts of oil, duct tape, etc. Leaving in the morning. Probably Penelton, Oregon via Ellensburg, WA tomorrow then on to Boise, Idaho, Salt Lake, Cheyenne, accross Nebraska and stay with a friend in DesMoines, Iowa eventually. May change the route depending on how things go and what seems interesting to see. I am having trouble with my picture connection, but will take plenty of photos and try to post as I go. Worst case will post pictures when I get to Indiana.
You mention you may change the route based on what there is to see. Did you get a chance to check out the new Lemays Museum in Tacoma? Have a safe trip back.
That's neat little wagon, almost bought it myself( but a 62 Pontiac Bonneville Wagon (1 owner) called my name .. Good luck on the trip and the new (er old ) wagon !
Daddio, yes it is the 60 Brookwood advertized earlier on HAMB. Mr48 thanks for the offer, but when I hit Ellensburg, WA I decided to go accross to Spokane, Montana and Rapid City. The 60 is running good. Put 460 miles on her today. Stopped for the night just short of Missoula, MT. Mountains are behind me now. Operating from a motel computer so still no pictures, but I am taking them and will post eventually. Will look at the map tonight and may hit some two lane tomorrow. Had a great sandwich and some local beer at the Nugget Lounge in Superior MT tonight.
And I went to the Rib shack and had a pulled pork sandwich too. I was thinking that going across 90 would be a straighter shot. You still have to go over the Continental Divide tomorrow and that will give that 235 a workout. Keep us posted on the progress.
Have a great trip! Gotta love seeing the country from behind the windshield of an old car. Watch out for those Nebraska guys.
Hammer down Walt. Sam and I, with our brothers and our mom and dad, were on a similiar trip 45 years ago. We were driving a 61 wagon, 6 cylinder 3 speed, pulling a tent trailer. We had plenty of time to see the sites as we motored along. John
Sorry, haven't posted for the last two days, but I have been computerless. Made it to DesMoines, Iowa this afternoon and am at an old friends house for the night. S Left Superior, Montana on Thur morning. I posted misinformation on the Mt's. They were not behind me. I was in them all day Thur. Crossed over the Cont. Divide and down into Wyoming. This is a great country. It never ceases to amaze me how wonderful the U.S. is. Even the most desolate parts have their beauty. It had been 35 years since I went this northern route and it was worth every mile. Friday, I spent the whole day coming down south in Wyoming and then across South Dakota. Have a picture of the wagon in front of Wall Drug that I will post as soon as I am home with a connection port. Today, I finished driving across South Dakota, down from Sioux Falls to Sioux City and on to DesMoines The car did fine through the Mts. It ran like a top. The driver's side window dropped off the track yesterday morning, but the day was so nice I didn't fix it until last night. Will post tomorrow when I get home.
You are retracing my trip path only in reverse from two years ago. Beautiful country, lots of sites much too see. Thanks for taking us along.
Getting ready to start the trip at my friend Ron's Wrecking yard. His yard guy, Ralph, is mounting a couple of spare tires for the trip
Loading up on Tuesday Wednesday morning going up into the Cascade Mt's separating the wet from the dry side of Washington Coming down the other side of the Cascades approaching Ellensburg WA Crossed Washington in the afternoon and up into Idaho Stopped that night in Superior Montana
Stayed last night in Hardin, Montana. This morning started down to Wyoming and then on into South Dakota.
