This will be a fun build being done with the help of my father and my son. My father, the man with the money, asked me what I thought about building a hotrod? I of course replied with: That's a great idea Dad. What should we build he asked? A coupe would be great, but not big enough for the three of us, so we better build a sedan. I like four doors, but Dad is not much on that idea, so when this Vicky appeared here on the HAMB, it was a natural choice. Here are some photos of how it arrived, and the condition we are starting with.
We got the mouse nests out as well as all the nuts from the squirrels. My son did a great job with the shop vac.
There are a lot of variables yet, but we are trying to go with an old school or traditional hotrod look. Flathead V8 with a 4 speed for sure. Our next step will be to get this body off the frame and get going on the patch panels and some wood repair and replacement. I think we are going to go with the stock body of the 31 Vicky and go full fenders. Lots of 31's made to look like 32's, so why not have a 31 with a little different look. The vicky looks great as it was made. My buddy Dino will be helping with the design and body work, and we have Flat Jack going through a flathead for the build. I will try to post new things as we progress.
Neat car, always liked Vickys. Was it the later mfg dates that had the slanted windshields? I also found the recessed floor under the front seat very unusual? Gary
I think all of the Vickys both 30-31 had slant windshields. They were apparently just a little ahead of the other A's with what was to come. The areas under seats must have been used for storage for the big shopping trips.
The floor is recessed because the top is 1-1/2 shorter than the closest Model A. Factory chop ! Ha Ha Lowers the seat and foot well. The slant windshield was on the Vicky and other Briggs or Murray bodies for 30&31 2 dr, 4 dr and A400. The doors on a vicky also close flush like 32 and unlike any other A 2 hinges like a 32. The doors are also the longest front to back of any A. Makes in and out easier. There's lots of thing on the Vicky that were a test bed for 32s See the seat pivot on the p***enger side?
