I decided to take this week off work to "decompress" when the kids went back to school. So, I took a road trip up to the top of Texas to go see Owens Salvage yard in Wellington Texas.

What a place! I told Bob Owens the only words I could use to describe it was a treasure trove. Bob himself is one of the nicest fellas I've met, it really was a pleasure dealing with him. He was kind enough to allow me access to the yard where I wandered for quite some time in total awe of the place.

You name it and he's probably got it there.

He told me he pretty much ships anywhere and he will be who I call from now on when I need stuff.

    Check it out guys!

What can I saw, it was the highlight of my week. [IMG]

Very cool. That Buick Bubble top has some possibilities, but so does everything else!

    Owens Salvage rules.
I hope you didn't get any Ticks or Chiggers while roaming around the yard this time of year.

Bob Owens is a quality person. Fair prices, great person to talk with. Went by the yard a few years back. Next time I am definitely stopping!

I was thinking snakes, but it would be all worth it. Thanks for the pics, up here there would just be a big pile of rust.

What always surprises me when I see pictures of cars out west that have been sitting outside for decades is how they are covered with a coat of reddish brown rust, but it isn't like the rust we guys on the east coast are used to. It seems more like a coating than the metal being disintegrated by the elements.

And yes, snakes would be one of my concerns.........I HATE snakes !

  14. He certainly does ship everywhere. He sent parts for my 347 Pontiac all the way to Chester, UK. Very helpful and prices are correct.

Never met him personally but I know many people who have. Without exception, every single comment that I've ever heard about Bob was not only positive but over the top positive.

Nice to see a positive post about someone who deserves it.

IIRC, Owens salvage was next to a yard with lots of 40's and '50's vintage cars, called Southside Salvage. The man I dealt with there, his first name was Marshall. I bought quite a bit of trim and sheetmetal from them as I had delivered a car to Louisana for a customer, and had an empty trailer headed west. Good folks to deal with. I believe Owens salvage either bought the inventory from Southside, or the business as well, incorporating it into their own. This was in the late '90's when I was there.

Rednecks have been known to invade and drive with reckless abandon around the yard...

I used to go to South Side Salvage all the time in the 1990's. Marshall Peters was an amazing guy. They had cars at Southside that went clear back into the 1910's. I will never forget the cinder block room near the front of the place that had machine guns all over the wall that migrant workers had traded him over the years for car parts. There was a 1935 Chevrolet 1-1/2 ton with visible gas pumps stacked up in the back like fire wood and porcelain gas and oil signs all over the place. I have to say I still wake up with sweats in the middle of the night thinking about all of the amazing things in that yard that I left behind. Never leave a man behind.
