if i was going to do it, i would cut the lip where the tire bead goes(the flat part) then when i put the new lip on i would weld it on the opposite side of the safty bead(which 35s dont have)

3WMike, I have a set of widened K/H wheels and the seam on mine is on the outside between the spoke line and the beadline. 2.5 " were added, making the total width 7.0"
I purchased this pair of wheels and they were widened before I found them, I have no idea who did the work, but they did a first cl*** job. They run straight and look super.

I added about two inches on the backside of the rim.Had the back lip turned off and added on another backside of a similiar rim that was wider. Worked great. Had a friend do it on a big lathe and center them up. I welded them with a wirefeed.

KH are hard to widen... With 35 wires there is space between the spokes and the outer lip to add a band.. With KH you must weld the spokes to the hub & rim (they will move in the lathe if you don't)... Then the ******s are to close to the outer lip to cut... the lip needs to be surface machined off... add a band... then add the outer lip from a doner wheel... also you will be adding the the outside which if you running an early Ford rear puts additional stress on the axle although I haven't experienced any issue... having gone this route before - I would recommend giving Wheel Kid a call to see about using your hub center with new spokes & rim... I was doing a period correct build and if your paying to have them widened the labor cost will probably be higher than replacement

Hunt for a donor, solid center, wheel of the same diameter, cut the outer lip off at the 2" wider line then weld this to your K/H rim. Only one weld per wheel and no band to make up.

I question your reference to KH wheels... Welded spoke 35 Ford are pretty straight forward to widen... Usually when someone refers to KH wires it is adjustable spoke offered as and upgrade and although Ford bolt pattern rims are most common they were offered on several makes & models... issues with widening are vastly differant
