Well I started to get the rear end hung. The rear will be located with a 3-Link(with a wishbone for the 3rd-link), and front and rear will be bagged. I got the link tabs for the outside bars done and welded up. The outside bars are 20" long. Next I'll build the wishbone and mounting tabs for the axle. The pics show the frame in its aired-out position, ride height will be 5" off the ground. The rear bars will be parallel to the ground at ride height. I also got my wheels painted up and my and my dad mounted them up to the tires. Mounting the tubed tires wasn't the most enjoyable thing I've ever done. Now I'm afraid to drive it cuz I seem to pick up nails everyday in my driver. I can't see doing a roadside tube change. Oh well, I'll get over it Heres some pics as it sits, I can't wait to get it up on wheels!
Thanks guys. Power will be a 455 Olds. Nobobody makes an aftermarket tri-power manifold for the 455, but my brother has had and original 66 Olds 442 complete tri-power setup since high-school. It was on his daily driver almost 20 years ago, but has been bagged up for 15 years. He just got married and sold it to me at a GREAT price, so I'm thrilled to have it. It looks so much better with the tri-power set-up for sure-heres a pic of it I hope by next weekend to have the frame sitting on all 4-wheels
I like what I see, man that is some severe kick up, how much is that? do you need to gusset such a kickup?? keep the pics comming.
Thats gonna have a tuff stance. Are you going to gusset the joins and what type?(fish plate or braces)
Thanks all! Yeah, it will look pretty crazy aired out for sure. The rear tires are 32" tall, and the roof is only 41" tall, so it'll look pretty animated. The rear kick up is 19". I will definitely gusset all of the angles, so it'll be plenty strong. Where I gusseted the rear frame tabs for the 3-link will also help the rear kick-up, and the triangular gusset I build to finish it will make it plenty strong. I'll keep posting progress pics for sure, I'm real anxious to get it up(or down)on wheels!
Well I got alot more done on the frame. I fabbed up motor mounts, and got them all welded up. And I got the ****** crossmember built & welded in. I didn't do a drop-out ****** mount though, because the bellhousing bolts aren't accessable with the motor position to the firewall, but thats ok with me. I also fabbed the k-members and welded them in too. I welded some 1.75" dom tubing thru the ****** crossmember and the k-members to p*** wiring, brake lines, fule line etc thru. I still have to finish up building some gussets, but the major fabrication is almost done. I'm so happy to have the motor & ****** mounted up. Next I'll get the front axle hung, and the wishbones mounted as well. Heres some pics as it sits
Very nice! Great to have your updates coming in...always looking forward to them. Your a bit of an "arteest" with the tubing DR!
Don`t you just love pushing the envelope. You do killer work in my opinion. That thing is gonna have so much power you better buy a few more dozen rear tires.Keep up the great work & show us more updates as they happen.
excellent as usual my friend, I love the motor mounts. I didn't put a drop out cross member in my truck either cause I figured by the time I had the ****** ready to pull from underneath I could have evrything out and on the floor from the front.
Damn...that's one awsome setup you've got going on. Im anxious to see the end result. Make sure to keep us up to date with the progress.
Thanks for the comments guys, they are appreciated! In the past two days I've been working on that for 24 hours, and today I can barely move I'm so sore. I might go and make a couple gussets tonight, I'm just having a hard time convincing myself to move off the couch in the A/C to go sweat any more today though
