I got the news today that next weekend that I will get to go look at a place that growing up I always heard about. The old man that had the place was a crazy drunk with more money than he knew what to do with. My grandfather use to tell me that if he saw a car he wanted he would try to buy it. He told me that in 53 there was a real bad drought and no one had money and started buying everyone's car from them. He would buy them take them home and park them. He did this from the 50's up to the 70's. From what I am told there are hundreds of cars from the 30's to the 70's. I found the place on google maps and it's just rows of cars. I was told the best stuff is in the barns. But I was allso to it is all nfs. And was allso told if I asked i would be told to leave. The man is dead but his son promised his dad he would not sell any of them. I guess it's good news and bad getting to see it but not buying anything. I will take tons of pics. Is there a way to post the google maps image?

I will just wait and just post pics then. I figured that maybe some how the guy might be convinced to sell the stuff one day.

Enjoy the tour and leave the guy alone. Some people just like to have stuff around and lots of them are here.
Most folks want people who have stuff to sell it to them at below market price and YEP then THEY resell the stuff.
Let the guy enjoy his junk, get pictures and a nice tour if you can, listen to the stories, leave your number and maybe he'll call you.

That was my plan. They say his son is a good guy. I have talked to a guy that use to haul cars out there and he said there is som much stuff out there. He allso said that there are piles of fenders doors and hoods. And one barn that is full of parts from old auto parts stores he would buy out when they closed. They say he loved cars but just would not do anything with them. They say he was so crazy he dug a ditch across the road in front of his house because the school bus was going to fast.

I'll second those thoughts, I'd be sure to ask if taking photos and posting them was ok with the guy. Bob

Exactly.....Don't post the pics or location unless this guy seriously wants to sell this stuff and wants to deal with dozens of "tire kickers". If he gives you permission then fine, but it sounds like he has been keeping people away for a reason. Tread carefully.....

  14. It gets better not only is he going to tell the world but when he goes out there he can't buy anything and is probably going to get told to leave.

Its kind of like Ft Knox, I have been told about it all mylife and I think I can find it. They keep the good stuff locked up and if I go not only can I not have some but they probably won't even let me in.

The guy I am going with is very good friends with the son who now own it all. He has told me that they have been really talking with him about selling it all before it's all gone. This guy has told me that they are rough and some are very rough. His hopes are that once he sees that people are interested and he stands to make some prety good money maybe he will let it go. The past few years it's been rough on all the farmers around here and probably every where else.

Been there...can't even get close to the building for all the perimeter fence around it...and the ever present guards...stood outside the main gate and shot pix...even had the guards come out and tell we couldn't shoot pix...had to leave...same with some Air Force bases these days...can't even shoot pix of the planes on static display at the front gates without two guards coming out brandishing guns and telling us "it's illegal"...

It's been explained many times before why some of us goofy old mental cases won't show or sell our junk.
Pure and simple, because too many are out to screw them and offer rediculously low prices. Tire kickers and thieves take up too much time.
Spread the word enough, get a bunch of crooks snoopin and they will end up s****pin the whole bunch.
Just enjoy your chance to look around and maybe take some photos. Maybe someday they will be for sale to the public.

If they would have been advertising on Craig's list I would have known about it and so would have everyone else I know. I only know of one truck that was sold off of the place. It was a old international flatbed truck. And one motor cycle that the guy had to give an arm and a leg for. They say he has quite a few motorcycles allso. From what I was told this was around 40 years ago.

  24. Hell Model T1,
I am not out to cheat you at all, just give me that old '36 3 window and I won't have cheated you out of a thing. :D

There was a fella die over in Wyandot county back in the '90s. He left his kid a barn full of old cars dueces, model As, Ts turbo corvairs etc. I was contacted by someone who said the man didn't have a clue what anything was worth and would I be willing to come over and give him an idea what everything was worth. Not as an appraiser but just a rough idea on the stuff.

So I ball up and head over and when I get there the man was afraid that I was going to try and cheat him out of the stuff. Now this is a guy that had made an appointment for oe to be there. I tired to calm him down, explained that I was not going to try and buy his stuff and was just going to give him an idea so he could seel it is he wanted and know what he may want to keep as a rememberance if he wanted to do that.

We go back and forth finally he tells me that the barn if full of old cars and what is it worth. So I told him a grand and walked off.

People are funny about their stuff, some people know what they got and they are the most reasonable people in the world to deal with or not to deal with if they don't want to peddle. But the poeple that don't know are really hard to deal with.

    =======================================================

OK so much for the rant, get us some pics to drool over if you can. Good luck.

I don't know if this guy knows what he has or if he cares. A bunch of the old folks around here don't care about old cars. They care about cows and how are they going to pay to feed them. If the guy decides he would consider letting stuff go I would rather see people on here buy them that one of the million guys that haul s**** around here. And from what I hear on the shape of some that might be all some are worth.

Benner the little I know about you from here I would trust you. Sadly I don't have a 36 Ford coupe...Or any other 36 Coupes. Do have a 39 Ford Deluxe I have been thinkin about selling because time is running out and I'll never work on it again. Altho I may not cheat anyone I do think I know the value of it. Yea, some is sentimental value since I've had it since mid 70's.
It really is hard to set prices and trust others.
I've seen lots of old junk yards and lots of old junk in yards and garages. Altho most is rust colored it seems to be coated with gold! Hell I found that when looking at late model trucks. ;)

I am not out to rip no one off or get screwed either. I usually like to trade if I can. We get new four wheelers all most every year for our ranch. Usually I will use the old ones to trade most are only a year or so old and all these old farmers want them and we have got all the use of them we want. If not they just sit until we have company or one of my ****head cousins comes down to hunt and we don't want him to screw a new one up.

  28. I would ask for the '39 but it would probably get the same attention from me as you. :D

I like to deal with folks that know what they have and have set a value for it. Maybe it is too rich for my blood but that doesn't change the fact that they are not going to come back next week and think that I took advantage of them.

I got a fella comming over this weekend to look at my Stude, I hate to see it go but it has to. I know what I want for it and what it is generally worth. he is knowlegable as well and he knows what he wants to spend, we will probably meet somewhere in the middle and I dont have to worry that either one of us is going to get skinned.

People that have stuff that don't know what it is or worth are just scarry.

This is true. I have found several cars near Stephenville. I recently found a 34 Tudor. The car was sitting since the 50s.

Bart . is this place out near Indian Gap? South of Dublin?

Indian gap is in Hamilton county. These are not to far from Dublin just way down a bunch of dirt roads. They are not hid you can see some of it from the road. But they go way back on his place. The tax place says it 150 acers and its covered.
