Working on the 53 Chrysler again.. I have fuel coming out a weep hole on the top side of the pump.. it has a sediment bulb, is that a cracked diaphragm ?? And can I get a replacement ?,, it has a miss also. #6 cylinder seems dead. Has Greer compression and new plugs. Good spark.. Wtf. Sent from my DROID device using the TJJ mobile app
Oh no, you have gremlins! Better head to the store and get some Gremlin-B-Gone! Yes, the fuel pump is bad and needs replacement. Call NAPA. Is spark plug #6 sparking? Have you tried slapping it? Maybe it's not dead and just power napping?
Yes probably the diaphragm is leaking. You might be able to get a replacement or if you are handy, make your own. I have used "Hypalon" material for this with good results. I put a used fuel pump on the wife's off-topic truck recently. This was a good working pump I removed about a year ago, but when I installed it, it did leak a little. After a day or so it has stopped. Strange. From now on, if I save old fuel pumps I will pump a little ATF through them to keep the diaphragm from drying out.
Run the fuel lines just to the frame and "dummy" them. Get an electric and put it outta sight back by the tank.
If you had fuel on the other side of the diaphram you will most likely have fuel in your oil, not good. JW
You should be able to get a rebuild kit for the fuel pump at www.then-now.com Here is the fuel pump page. http://www.maritimedragracing.com/antique_auto_parts_cellar.htm
You need a fuel pump. That is not a weep hole, it is a vent to allow the diaphragm to function properly. When the diaphragm goes up air comes out of that hole when it goes back down air rushes back in. Your diaphragm is broken and it will not pump fuel with a broken diaphragm. Fuel is getting past the diaphragm to the vent hole....not good.
i just gave one of those pumps to someone too.... theres all sorts of them on ebay, some say dodge some say plymouth, should be the same no?
