so i cut them 1 1/2 from mounting side and want to make them 2" wider have the gap set by placing 2x2 arcoss and screwing them into the fiberglass to hold gap. can i just use tigerhair with something as a backer or do i need to use glass cloth and then tiger hair?
You need to use mat and resin , taper the edges down to practically paper thin and scuff the heck out of the glass to get rid of the mold wax. Make sure it's clean and cut the mat over size so it covers about 1 1/2 - 2 inches of the fender on either side. You could use wax paper on top of the wood to keep it from bonding to it. Each layer of mat should be a little narrower than the previous too so it fills the void in the middle. Don't make it so narrow that you are not getting any out on the fenders though, that's what will hold it all together. You need at least 2 layers out on the fender and another 2 -3 for the empty section. When you are done with one side flip it over and scuff it up and repeat. These were cut into 3 sections and widened
