The DDCP cast into it makes me think of Chrysler DeSoto, Dodge, Plymouth. I don't know.

yup, that's a Chrysler corp trademark, not likely to be a continental...more likely to be a Dodge, Desoto, Plymouth, or Chrysler engine.

    look for a stamped number

look for the stamped number here on the side of the block, near the top front. Should have a letter and numbers sequence at the beginning like P10 which would be for something like a 1940 plymouth. P plymouth, D dodge, C chrysler, S desoto

The shifter box on top of the transmission...for a remote shifter, instead of a normal floor shift.

An old codger once told me that the letter in the DPCD embossing that is exaggerated indicates which division the part came from. In this case, it is the P. I have seen other exaggerated letters, matching the division of the part origin. Not sure if this is all bunk, though.

I'd be curious how the Ds could be extended? the P is a natural.

The D's I have seen where simply larger than the other letters (taller, slightly wider). I have seen a big C too. Might just be casting mold variances.

Well shoot ..... Do you think that would work in a 41 Plymouth ? I'm sure a guy can get anything to "work". Maybe the transmission thats in it already will bolt up to this engine. Can I turn it into a floor shift?Damn

If you have the complete transmission and bellhousing then you would probably be better off using what's in the car. It's hard to say...you're going to have to look things over carefully. Often, car and truck bell housings and flywheels were different.
