alright all parts are stock FORD what is the set up, running 32 perches and shackles with a Model A main leaf? seems the eye on the A spring is too small an I.D. to accept the 32 shackle... do most run a 32 main leaf with the A front cross member and A spring pack? do I press the shackle into the A spring eye, and expand the eye opening? or is there a shackle that will press into the A spring and work with the 32 square ends? thanks guys Whitey
ya pressed the sleeve out of the A eye still looks tooooooo tight of an I.D. in the A eye to press in the 32 shackle it will press in, BUT I am going to spread open the A eye spring
32-34 Ford front and rear spring main leaves have an oversize hole. The 32-34 Ford spring perches have the same size hole as the 28-31 Model A and all the later spring mounts and main leaf eyes. Best thing to do is buy a set of stock Model A shackles and the "problem" is solved. Sell the 32-34 shackles to a restorer or a hotrodder using a stock 32-34 spring.
now theres something I didnt think of the model A shackles are sweet, they have zerk fittings for grease.... so the perch I.D.s are the same huh.....cool why did henry switch to the rubber, friction type?
If I remember correctly I had the same problem- I ended up buying a 32 front shackle kit from MAC's and a Model A shackle kit and I used parts from both kits to make it work.
alright....now this is starting to remind me of the time when I couldnt p*** probability and linear equations..... it cant be this complicated..... just checked.....my a perch I.D. is definitely smaller than the 32 I.D....metal to metal
Your new stock Model A shackle set will come with the new steel bushings to use in the 32-34 perches.
Got to add my 2 cents here. I don't know what I got but there was rock hard nylon bushings, no steel sleeves. 3/4 in OD and 1/2 ID on the bushings. The suspention was very stiff front and rear. I started out by WD ing the leaves and bushings and that helped a little. Next was shooting ATF on the bushings before each ride. Got a lot better. The last thing I just did was to take this stuff apart and drill for grease fittings. Did this a couple of weeks ago and the ride is so good now that I've increased the tire pressure to 16 front/20 rear to 32 lbs front and rear. Hope this helps. Frank
Even older now... But, do you guys know of anyone selling the bushings to use with the 32-34 perches when opting to use the Model A shackles?
