Thanks for the tip! Not to long ago I saw a crossmember/spring setup similar to yours on one of Pinkee's ch***is and decided to go that route. I'll definately keep your advice in mind when setting mine up.
lrs30, shoot me a PM. I'll give you my email address. I have tons of pics from my suicide front suspension, and my buddies set ups as well. I'll hook you up with anything you need to know man. I was in your shoes a year ago, and I had the same **** thrown at me...and I didn't find anything that I needed searching. So, I will save you the h***le, lol.
That was a great link about Mr. Ackerman and I'll defiantly have to change the tie rod end's when I get to that point with my model a. Has any one used the 40 Ford sedan front beam? Any pics? It appears to me that very few guys are running this any more, just one more great way to exhibit one's fabrication skills!
this front end is great thanks for posting !!!
It's since been reinforced, finished off, painted, and I used larger bolts, as well. In all honesty, I will NEVER do a front end like this again on a street driven car. It took an incredible amount of effort to get the frame and cross member just right so the ride height was correct. This is without the shocks in place. I don't have the shocks re-indexed, painted, and mounted yet. Again... I would never set one up this way again.
You could possibly use an un-dropped beam. Looks great with the radiator shell over the spring. The function follows form, or vice-versa. Good work.
Thanks man, and I agree. The ride height would probably be best adjusted in the axle itself, if I ever wanted to raise it up a bit. I have some pretty tall tires on it right now, too.
Hey, sorry you ran into Mr. irascible....I have pics I can email you. Mine is spring over axlebeam, tie rod out front, split bones, corvair box, juice brakes. 4" dropped Superbeam. I have a stacked front frame 14" kick in rear with A spring in front of banjo rear. Car sits low, but not too low. PM me if ya want and I will send....btw, I have never been fond of the spring mounted to the bones, just my opinion, lotta weight on something never designed for it.
How many of you guys posting have had trouble making the tie rod work or have it hitting the frame???
I had a real pain getting everything to clear everything else! It nearly hits the rad at the back, and touches the spring perch at the front on full lock. Plus it just kisses the shock mounts too. Full rebound it might touch the top of ch***is rails, but hopefully not. Lots of careful measuring and spacing and adjusting, and it looks okay now, I hope. I had to run it at the rear or it meant fabricating new steering arms and stuff.
