Ive got 283 in 56 4 door and sometimes at random the engine will try to take off (2000-2500rpm)for no apparent reason. Throttle cable is not sticking, hit the pedel a couple times and it will quite. It has original 2bbl rochestor, new rebuilt kit in carb. Got a powerglide behind it. Any ideas??
It doesnt act like a intake vacuum leak, not constant enough.

  2. Automatic choke???

  3. Theres a whole lot of air getting down the throat of the carb some how.
Couple blips correct it I'd check the return again, shaft binding up maybe, warn shaft bore

Did it do this before the rebuild?

Just to clearify, does it rev's up on it's own or it does it after you give it some gas pedal and won't idel back down.

  6. I was having a similar problem with the auto choke on mine. I converted it to cable and the problem, she is gone.

Sounds like fast idle cam for the choke is not fully releasing and hangs up occasionally.

Power brakes? If so, where is it drawing vacuum from?

Next time get out and look at the fast idle cam before you tap the pedal.
