I purchased this truck from fellow hamber, "Truckedup", for 11 grand about 4 years ago. It has been very reliable and I've put 45 thousand miles under the wheels since then. It is my daily driver. Tony had it listed on the HAMB cl***ifieds and didn't get many nibbles. His ad description follows the pic.
CJ; here's another CT find. Sorry for the dark pics as the owner showed up at night a few weeks ago, to show me his new tires and new brush paint 2 owners back from him, that elderly guy had it for 60? years, and just kept "fixing" the wood parts as they went bad, so it's not quite correct, but it is a real woodie. A little over the 5k budget at 5800, when he bought it last fall in south eastern CT. Ha, I had to talk him into buying it, because he thought the price was high. He now drives the wheels off it and loves it.
Just brought this one home on Friday. 31 five window with a 350/350 Chevy. Runner-Driver The guy was advertising $9500 i offered 7K and he took it! Granted, everything that the last owner did, needs to be redone! It was like 1985 pricing all over again!
Thanks for the tip. Wish I had cought that coupe before it was sold. I guess I'll just have to keep my eyes open.
I got 10 grand- now someone sell me a steel 32 3 window or a 41 Willys. 10 grand MIGHT get your car painted.
My goal is to get my 1928 "chevy coupster" on the road for under $5000. It wont be a show car, but it will be painted. Tally so far: stock ch***is and body (needs some metal work) = $735 used SBC 305 = $380 used TH350 = $150 used 10 bolt rear end = $150
$10K buys a lot! This year I saw a nice older restoration A 2 door sedan for $7.5K, nice car. A friend sold a '29 coupe that was virtually rust free for $4.5K. I sold a '46 Chevy pickup with Mustang II suspension, 350/350, running, for $5.5K, a running '53 chevy 5 window pickup with fair body and a highpressure 235 for $2,500; and a 50 Chevy truck with rough body but full Z28 front and rear suspension, no engine, for $1.5K. I bought a literal barn find '47 Chevy coupe, '70's frame off rod, for $3.2K. Refurbishing cooling, fuel, brake systems and used Crager SS wheels and tires doubled my in price, plus lots of elbow grease to demouse the interior and fix other stuff. I see some decent looking rods for just over $10K that tend to be late '40's cars and trucks if you want one done. This is in NE Kansas. I know of a '29 A sedan with mint body being built as a highboy, Pete and Jake front end, new tires on powdercoated '35 wheels, built flathead, auto trans conversion, Winters quickchange (large!), nice boxed frame, etc, all apart, priced a few days ago at $8K. He said he may ask more when the first guy didn't take it. The stuff is everywhere! Ya just gotta look, and have ready cash to buy quick if a deal pops up. Good luck!
Count your blessings, ten grand might pay for the shipping on your white walls. You have to drive 800 miles to get a can of one shot... That said, I will have around ten in my hot rod. But in Fairbanks a rusty flathead is worth its weight in gold.... So I dont have one.
When I was 12 someone put out an old spare on junk day which I grabbed. A never used US Royal wide white, with the ***s on it. It was new, but at least 40 years old then. What's new mean? You can build your own for $10K if you do the work and can be creative looking for your project vehicle. I mean, I have a '50 Chevy that I'm actually ahead a few hundred bucks on if you tally up what I've spent on it versus what I've sold off it and what cars I bought for donor parts that I then parted out and s****ped for it.
Listen.. I dont have a dog in this fight, but I did list the car for a friend. Lets be clear, it was a barn find Several years ago. Please go read the ad I listed here to see whats been done to it. Its not 100% BONE-STOCK original A coupe. Its a running driving ***led registered A coupe with a freshly built banger and 2 rebuilt 97s, new Coker tires(anyone bought cokers lately?) All new brakes and more. So at least look at the ad to see whats been done before jumping to the 3k price barnfind idea. As for him listing before, he had it forsale before. Also before the new motor and multi carbs. He scrambled to get that new motor in to come to a show we were camping at over laborday weekend. Just my .02
I've got a complete 34 ford truck with ***le, been in dry storage for 16 years you could get for 10k. Also know of a 28 sedan with a bbc that drives for I think $1600.
Just keep hunting and put the word out that you are looking. I find a bunch of cars just from letting people know I am looking. I had a guy come into the office today and told me that he had a 39 deluxe coupe. He said its kinda rough and that the quarters were rusted out. But he said he wanted a grand but he wanted me to look at it. It's five hours from here so I got to find time to look. Good deals are out there you just have to be the guy there first. The cars that sell for 4500 or 5000 dollars were probably got for half of what they are selling them for.
ten grand is my dream budget to build a hot rod. I think 10K can go a long way but as stated before it has to be a hands on build.
Saw a very very decent looking stock Model A coupe on craigslist the other night for $5,500! They usually go for twice that. It didn't last long.
The first versin of my T was about $10K. There's a nice looking T on the tbucketeers website for $8,500. ***led and runs.
$10k is what you say your limit is when you start the project. Then when you double that it means you're gettin close to finishing.
Your better off using your money on another car for less money and does not have a roof that was half ***ed. You could find a better car for less and have it shipped and come out better.
Hershey's right around the corner. I've seen some stuff I'd love to have in the range of $10K or less. You won't find any Deuce coupes there for that money. You will find tons of other stuff though. The spaces have been getting better with regard to volume the last 2-3yrs in a row.
was a time when the HAMB was us against them "Gold Chainers" times change and us are now called rat rodders and banned from having an opinion. If you look back before 2000 rat rods were cool here. and gold chainers were evil (I hated that saying too) 1998 I did a post about when the gold chainers start building $200,000 Rat Rods we will be looking for a new fad. I am building a shop truck and have less than $2200 cash in it. I can't afford to pay my shop rate so I keep putting customers ahead of my projects. but if you hoade s****s from what others discard. you can still build cheap if you take it to a pro you might get it done better than home built. or not depending on your skill level. you will never improve your skills without doing the work yourself. what is funny to me is if you pull your project out of a pro shop and take it to another pro shop you'll find out that who ever did the first work was an IDIOT and the new shop will start all over. I have a customer that spent $25,000 at one of the best shops in the NW only to have it stripped to bare metal again when moved to another shop.
Here ya go, call me what ya will (fool probably comes to mind, huh?) Sold here on the H.A.M.B., by me: One 1929 roadster pickup project: $6000 One 1930 Chopped coupe project: $5800 ALL the work on these projects was performed by me and some help from my hot rod pals, I don't count my own labor doing what I love to do, I'm happy these rods went to fellow hambers, who will do the cars right...The memories of the fun me and my buds had building them.....PRICELESS. 10K will get ya there if you learn and work the car yourself.
$10 K, all is fine and dandy, and you can build a running driving car for that much. For the most part it will be built by you with very little in the way of fancy bits. Rattle can paint and less than perfect body, but not a R** R** When you start plating ,powder coating, body work and painting, then upholstering is where the dollars can rapidly overtake the 10K mark. I wasn't too concerned with the cost when I paid Tim McMaster $4K for my new Y Block to go in my 26 RPU , sure I could have got a new SBC for less than $2K but where is the fun in that.
