I have a chopped 49 Ford Coupe with a one piece door glass and currently do not have the glass in the car... I'd love to have the vent windows but do not have the time nor money to do that right now. I also do not and never had the stock glass tracks/channels and gears/regulators... I have a power window kit from Southern Rods sitting in the car that I was going to use but really hate electric power windows and would love to NOT use them (they are the typical universal kits which look cheap IMO). I have no clue how to install this window kit yet since I only looked into it for an hour or so and also found an article online where someone converted to a one piece door glass and power windows. It looked fairly easy to do but not 100% sure on it. I am curious as to how much work it would be to collect the stock window parts and install the stock unit that will hold and support the longer one piece glass and roll up and down manually? Is there a lot of fab work involved in doing this? Any information, suggestions or tips would be GREATLY appreciated! If this is something that is fairly easy to do and anyone has stock window parts they'd like to sell, please PM me with info. Thanks a lot in advance!
Not much work if you watch evilbay. Just know 49 have square posts for handles and 50-51 have spline. They come up a lot good luck!
Not much work making the one piece glass work in a stock manual track or not much work finding the parts?... Anything specific I need to know before tackling this job?
You will have to make a track channel at the front part of door for the glass that parallels the rear at the same angle which can be fun sometimes on a chopped car. The power kit will also have to run in the same plain so there is no bind when traveling up and down..not real hard to do just time involved. Doing some right now on a chopped 40 merc and its fun to make things jive together...
