Okay, this might seem kind of corny, but I had to post about it. This air compressor was purchased around the same year I was born 1984 and is being retired today as a great deal on a bigger one came about. This little sears 30 gallon has seen thousands of hours of use, powered tools that worked on hundreds of cars, leaks oil, the tank is starting to rot through, but still worked perfectly (until I stole the motor that is). There was ZERO maintenance done to this thing other than adding oil since 1984. I remember hearing this thing run since I was no taller than it was. So long craftsman 30 gallon, you will be missed. Anyone else have a strange attachment to a tool like this?
Me too , a 1981 Rolling Stones tour shirt also Tom Petty , Def Leppard and Asia From same year. **** when did I get so effen old
I had a similar sized Sears compressor that was 10 years older that I used up to 89 or 90 when I stepped up to one with a 60 gallon tank,it sat in the small garage to be used for small jobs until a couple years ago when a friend needed a compressor so its in his garage now. The bottom of the tank has holes which I tried welding but still works good enough to air up tires.
When I first went out on my own, I bought a used (probably stolen) Worthington cast iron 2 cylinder 60 gal. horizontal tank compressor in the spring of 1978 from a shady guy in Covington KY for $300.00. Same story - no maintenance other than air filter changes, nightly draining, and maybe half a dozen oil changes when a belt would break. Used it every day for 32 years. Last year I had to plug the tank, but I used it last Sunday. If it ever dies, I'll probably put it out to pasture behind the barn.
mine is circa 1982, looks identical to yours. use it almost every day since I have 3 cars that loose air in one tire or another weekly. I think I changed oil on it once
Thinking the same thing! "The last Bug-In" T-Shirt from the last weeks of Orange County dragstrip in late '82, and several of my "team" shirts from skateboarding in the late seventies... But I digress. In '85 I bought a similar compressor from Price Club thinking it would last a year or two and replaced it late last year with a huge compressor. Gave that one to a younger hot rodder here in town and he still uses it to this day.
The OP is my kid and he's clear full of sheet. I changed the oil once and I'm pretty sure I blew the filter out once. It still ran perfect. We rolled it out of the garage last night and when I came out this morning to go to work he had rolled it back in before he went home. I bought it used right after he was born and now he doesn't have the heart to to feed it to the s****pers. I'm going to miss that thing too. Been through two marriages and lived at every address he and I have since he was born. Kevin
bought my old one when I lived in a third story apartment in Tempe. Used haul that thing down all those steps on the weekends!
the cut off here is 64 and older, your compressor is 20 years too new for anyone to care about on here

I have the same exact one, purchased in '85. I patched the tank a few years ago w/ J-B Weld. Also replaced the regulater . I have never changed the oil, just add if needed. Still works great ! I like it also because it is quiet compared to many of the new ones.
