Always intended to run cloth covered plug wires but now came to realization they are solid-core and wont work with modern ignition. Does anyone make suppressor-core wires vintage style?

    Like so...

I looked all over and couldn't find any. Spoke with Bubba about running the solid core wires with my Pertronix conversion and he said that they have done it without issue.

I have had mine for about a year with no issues at all.

I am not sure about running them with a OEM style HEI.

I think you got your answer from goose-em. There is none. Bubba is a very helpful guy that answers peoples questions, for free, on a nearly daily basis.

I asked if anyone made suppresor-core wires and all i get is bubba this and bubba that and run points. You call that an answer? Im not converting my ignition to stock, will just run modern silicone wires.

Its like I asked for flight info to Cleveland and was handed the bus schedule.

  11. ****gy,
You got it set on kill thoday my friend, LMFAO. :D:D:D

You can buy the cloth cover just like the fellas that sell the cloth covered wires, you get it through the electronics industry, let me see if I have some samples here. Try techflex, they make wire covers. Build your wires and put the covers on them, BAM your done.

    Urban Dictionary:

"The origin of the expression go pound sand is from a longer expression, not to know (have enough sense to) pound sand down a rathole. Filling rat holes with sand is menial work, and telling someone to pound sand down a hole is like telling them to go fly a kite. The expression dates to at least 1912 and is common in the midwestern United States."

...huh, It must be a traditional way to say F-Off. :]

  16. Ha my mom was mad at me once and told me to go jump in a lake, so I did, had a great time. Then I came home and she was mad because my cloths were wet and I was dripping all over the floor. Ya just can't win for loosing. :D

Haha getting me wound up isnt hard to do most times. I will just run silicone vs sleeving, that sounds hokey. Thanks for the "help" and entertainment. Wish they made them, maybe they should(hint).

  19. Maybe you should, all cloth covered wires are is spark plug wires with cloth on them. I told you where to get sleeving.

Actually while I am thinking about it the distributer is going to be a dead giveaway anyway. I know that you already have your ignition lined out, but next time if you want to look old timey and still go fast you can use a points ignition in conjunction with an MSD box and go just as fast and start just as easy. All the points do once you set up the box is act as a trigger and they last way longer than points in a regular points ignition because the box is doing all the work. Just a thought.

Good thing you have a sense of humor, i'm personally a bonehead even tho i'm young guy, but i love to give **** and have a full feeling that atleast 50% of outdated stuff is still better than modern, points included....That said the WORST thing i did by heckling you was to pull your thread back up to the top!!

You dont know how many 6al boxes and msd modules have left my friends stranded while i just sanded my points.....

  21. A dealership in St Loius sent a roundy round car to us for me to diagnose once. It hadn't seen the track yet and was all brand new, pretty cool car actually offset ch***is etc.

Anyway it had been started and the cam broken in but it would not start, I through a meter on everything and all seemed good so out of desparation I byp***ed the box. It cranked right up.

ya gotta wonder what those certified mechanics are thinking.

  22. Not to add insult to injury, but why even run cloth wires with an engine from the 60's-70's? It's like putting artillery wheels on a Mustang... :)

One of my old MG's had cloth covered solid core wires but with resistor ends to fit the spark plugs. I think some motorcycles still use those.

Don't see why solid core wires would not work..except for insulation rating for a modern high voltage ignition..... all the suppression was to do with RFI interference and interference with computer controlled vehicles and onboard electronics, lots of better modern wires have a spiral wire core, fairly low resistance. Try solid, but the FCC black helicopter might find you:D
Mostly BS and drinking beer ITS FRIDAY:D Have a good one.....

  25. MSD's are very sensitive to outside RFI signals and cuase exhaust to randomly blow off! Ask me how I know! :D And god forbid the pickup wire gets next to a strong current wire like powers up the car! And MSD's are suppose to use a selfpowered timing light or use a non dial light with a seperate car battery to power it, little know facts but the truth!

"Go pound sand!" I like it, a polite way to say F@ck off!!

There are Suppression core cloth covered wire. I listed them in another thread. Not sure where it is now. Your homework is to go search for it.
And you owe Bubba an apology, he had no dog in that fight, hell he wasn't even in the thread. So man up and do the right thing.

Nothing to apologize for. I thought he was speaking of the common "bubba", like when someone says you'll go to prison and bubba will make you his *****.
