Hate to hear about your bad luck, but a bad day on the road is better than a good day at work............ See you in Indy!

If you don't know who the guy on the left is you need some hot rod education. That's Norm K. aka Normie Poo. I won;'t try to spell his last name becuase I would butcher it.

OK, I have been told you guys are stopping at Speedway motors in Lincoln, Nebraska. Is this on your way out or on the way back? What is the date you will be in Lincoln? I was told it was on a Monday and that you were going to be spending Sunday night in Grand Island, Nebraska. If this is true where are you staying for the night. Would like to get some hot rods to come to the motel to welcome you to Nebraska. Just need to know when and where. Then we would run with ya to Lincoln to Speedway motors also.
Thank's for any information you can give me, 383deuce

    DAY THREE.......

Well, I woke up today in a good mood hoping that the new mechanical fuel pump would do the trick for one of my problems...

The morning started with a driver's meeting and then everyone headed out to "the end of the road" at Bonneville for a group photo op. That didn't go so well as an overall shoot, but no biggie.

From there we headed 120 miles to Salt Lake City to Kindig's shop for a tour and lunch. The 'bird ran great, other than the new white smoke. We got a ton of great video footage for the daily website update.

At Kindig's the doors were open wide and the hospitality was great. His shop is top-notch all the way as the cars they build would indicate. They even had a live band playing for us. We spent a couple hours just hanging out. It was a great stop. We even got to check out the new Goodguys giveaway '32 Ford Tudor - yes it's a real Henry steel body.

From Kindig's a bunch of us headed to the university and their art museum for their "speed" exhibit. Some *****in landspeed cars, including the Mormon Missile, but $13 for 12 cars was a little steep.

After the museum I g***ed up and hit Highway 80 again. The car almost immediately started starving for fuel as I headed up the grade. I won't go into detail here because I started another thread asking for help, so you can read the whole ugly story there.

Oh, and I lost a second Moon disk today thanks to the ****ing rumble strips that the road construction is forcing us to drive over.

In the end, the good is that I'm on the road with 150 like-minded car guys and gals and the pork chops I had for dinner were good.

    Today's quick pics...

Sounds like a killer trip. What ever time you have at Speedy Bill's museum won't be long enough, way to much to see...been there a couple of times.

    Enjoy the drive...

    DAY FOUR..........

Technically it was the second day of the tour and we has three stops scheduled. Waking up this morning I definitely was not as optimistic as I had been the first three days. Everything I checked on the car looked fine and nothing stood out as the problem bit. So, I just packed up, attended the drivers meeting and hit the road. Not even one minute on the highway and my fuel starvation problem started again. I flipped on the electric pump for about a mile and it smoothed out. It turned it off and ran on the mechanical for the next 100 miles until we made a stop and I decided to top off the tank. The car immediately ran like **** again.

For the next 150 miles I switched on and off the electric as needed (which was often) and rolled in to Laramie, Wyoming where we were hosted by Wyotech. Man, what a facility. If I was just out of high school I sure as hell sign up. The teach everything from diesel mechanics to hot rod building and even custom paint.

Next stop was a prison museum, but I had to skip it to hit NAPA for parts and chemicals before heading to Pinkee's where we'd planned to cut my front springs to bring the nose down on the 'Bird.

Well, I barely chugged in to Pinkee's with the car now even dying with the electric pump on. Road tested hot rodder and great guy, Royce Glader (one of Pinkee's customers) jumped right in to help me with my fuel issue. We tested the pressure from both pumps and before and after the hard line which we were increasingly su****ious of. In the end we decided to byp*** the hard line and run hose from back to front and left the now limping new mechanical pump out of the equation. It was a long miserable process, especially while 250 people outside were having fun.

I should be completely pissed and having a ****ty time, but the people on the trip are amazing, the scenery is incredible and the stops have been great.

Tomorrow is looking more promising, even with the main seal still puking severely. No stops tomorrow since it's Sunday, just 400 miles of open road!

A few shots from today. Not much since I was so sidtracked with mechanical issues.

I also just read about your new fuel line, etc. in the other thread.
Looked up the fuel pump and Oreilly's here in Omaha has one... That is, if you're still running the factory type pump with the vacuum wiper connections on it.

    Airtex part #4206, $64.99

I can pick it up and bring it with me to Speedway tomorrow (Monday) morning.

Well, I'm hoping to be able to buy a few things at Speedway tomorrow. If I pick up a fuel regulator I'm just going to run the electric until I get home. Thanbks a ton for the offer though!!!!

    DAY FIVE......

Not much other than driving 400 miles today from WIndsor, Colorado to Grand Island, Nebraska. The 'Bird did perform great today, but I think the electric pump is still a bit strong because it flooded the carb a couple time today at idle. I hope to pick up a regulator when we get to Speedway Motors tomorrow morning. Then I should be golden on the fuel delivery scene. She's still puking oil and getting about 10 miles pergallon cruising ay 80 all day long. The ride is COMFY!

The only place I stopped other than gas stations today (about $170 in gas) was some tourist trap place called Fort Cody that was mostly the cool kind of roadside cheesy giftshop I love, but also had some cool Buffalo Bill stuff.

Tonight we have a surprise birthday party for Andy!! He's 80 today!

Tomorrow we have three amazing stops, so stay tuned.

Was good to see you at Pinkee's...also glad to hear that the rubber line we helped you install solved most of the problems...if you get a fuel regulator, you may be golden for the rest of the trip...hope so and good luck...

Cool.. Speedway does have an in-line, easy to install Offenhauser regulator that's about $25-$30.

Is Fonzi jealous he is not on this road trip since his seat is taken by the clown

Kirk, feel your oil leak pain. my trip down to Pleasanton and back was plagued by oil and trans leaks..(bad ones). just think of it as having clean oil since it never gets old before leaving the car.
