Found this Ranchero at a s**** yard that I drive past every day on my way to and from work and swung in to take a look at it. It's a nice straight little pickup, and it looks like EVERYTHING is there except for a ***le and the 2 door rear view mirrors. The side gl***es are cracked, but they are flat so there is no problem there. The windshield is cracked, but could be lived with for awhile if need be.

The only other real problem is that it was/is an older restoration and has been repainted. I see LOTS of bondo and quite a few small rusted out places in and around the bottom panels where there much of the bondo is located. I have access to a sandblasting place that will work pretty reasonably, so the removal doesn't bother me, but I am a bit afraid of the sheet metal work involved.

Are there patch panels available for this? What about similar bodied cars that I can scavenge similar parts or would interchange?

I know this will be a big project, but since he's 12, I figure I've got some time - especially if I can make it move under its own power. The guy is wanting $800 for it, which I'm thinking is a bit high for a bondo bucket, but I know the guy and figure with the right offer he'd bow a bit. He's planning to stick it on Ebay for the $800, but I could gamble and wait to see if I can get it for less.

Anyway, any help you guys can give me would be appreciated.

I'm also up for the Ed-Chero conversion as well. LOL! The boy liked those too!

I can't see any reason not to buy this truck. You'll both learn alot in the fixing of it and how proud will you be when he drives it the first time?

  3. I like it! I agree, I don't see why you wouldn't try and grab it. It's a nice looking car and any chance to learn is good. The more work there is, the more you'll appreciate it when it's finished. I'd of loved that when I was 12, I had to wait until this year to get my first car!

Eastwood sells a panel install kit for 70 dollars I believe? If you go on the site and search it there's a video along with it to show you what it's about. It's what I'm usin on my Pontiac.

    Good luck grabbin it!

I'd jump right on that for that price. There's nothing on that car that can't be fixed...but the important question is:
What does the boy think of that car?

As far as liking it, he's pretty stoked about it and is planning to get up early tomorrow to make sure he's ready to go and look at it.

I know the guy pretty well at the s**** yard where this thing was drug into and sold for s****, so I figure too if we offered $300 cash and $300 in 's**** swap' he'd still make his close to $800 he's wanting since I know he buys s**** low and sells high. Figure too that'll give the boy a chance to 'earn' his half of the truck by hustling to pick up and clean up s**** to make some weight. My thought is if he works at it, he'll appreciate it more, but I figure as well that I need to be able to let him see it and play with it a bit before I lock it down for the body repair, so I figure I may wind up seeing if I can make it run and he can ultimately drive it up and down my driveway (about 1000') to catch the bus and drive it back up to the house/shop each day for awhile. That way too he can show it off and still have a bit of fun also.

Not having paperwork would scare me away at that price! The kid has some time before he gets his license so think about it what does it take to get paperwork in your state? figure in time and money also because it's worthless without paper other than s****.

Sweet ride My first build was a 59 ranchero when I was 16. Here is a picture of it for some insperation. It seems a little high on the price I paid 1500 for mine and it ran and drove and was in much better condition thatn this one. Here is a picture of it right after finishing the body and paint work on it. It also had lake pipes that wernt installed yet in this picture.

Living in SMALLTOWNOKLAHOMA makes a heckuva difference about finding stuff out. I talked to a girl who graduated a few years ahead of me in high school (21 years ago - lol) and works at the tag office last night on Facebook and asked her what she thought it would run to bring it current with the new law changes and such. She told me to 'get a bill of sale' on it (Oklahoma will transfer ownership with a notarized bill of sale) and bring it in and it'd be around $200 to transfer, tag, and bring the ***le current. So, that made me a bit happier and helps to figure it all out as well.

Great project for father & son!!!

  12. I think it's worth the asking price, not wanting to piss the guy off. If the kid works on it he will respect it. I would get the lien sale started and get it verified. Not that big a deal!

We went ahead and pulled the trigger on it today and bought it for full asking price. The guy told me he was running the VIN and trim on it and said it is supposed to be 1 of about 1100 like it - don't know for sure, so hopefully you guys can help me out with the research on it.

Also has the small V8 in it too. Dad seemed to think it was a 223.

    The VIN# is C9KF113###
    BODY: 66C
    COLOR: YE2
    TRIM: 47
    DATE: 15L
    TRANS: 1
    AXLE 4

Any help you guys can give me would be greatly appreciated.

Color code YE2 sounds like two-tone gold and white (IIRC) - might look sharp if you want to keep the original color scheme.

Snapped this picture while he was checking it out. I listen to him describe things and talk about it and what he says and how he says it makes me proud. The boy doesn't like imports, low riders, and gaudy paint. He like's them clean and with just the right amount of at***ude. I think he'd going to be alright. LOL
