I'm hunting for an S-10 4x4 rear end to put in a 52 Chevy coupe. I know the truck rear is a good fit for this application, but can anyone tell me if the rear from a 4x4 S-10 Blazer or S-15 GMC Jimmy is the same as the unit used in the truck?
not sure about the truck one.. i've got a 95' 4x4 blazer rear under my 50, it's a perfect fit.. you'll need to cut off the mounting brackets and weld on two new spring perches ($13 at Speedway.com)
My rear is out of a 2wd blazer it has a 3.73 gear in it. Fits great, I thought the 2wd blazers were narrorer the the 4x4 trucks but wider than the 2wd trucks Godspeed MrC Edit If I remember correctly the blazer rear is 59.5 inches backing plate to backing plate, the 49-54 stock rear is 60in. so its a good fit. I am able to run 15x8 standard offset wheels in the back with no rubbing.
If you haven't found the codes... here's the ones I've been using to look at them! GU2 2:73 ratio GU4 3:08 ratio GU5 3:23 ratio GU6 3:42 ratio GT4 3:73 ratio GT5 4:10 ratio GQ1 Open Differential Rear Axle G80 Positraction/Locking Rear Axle
Yep the 4wd truck is a wider rear. but I don't remember how much wider. The rear out of a 5 speed 4 cylinder 2wd S-10 is 4.10:1 if that helps anyone. It is the same center as the late model trans Am and it will take a liken and keep on ticken.
