I second that,Kev. There are a lot of us who would never have balls enough to take a newly purchased old timer on a trip like that !!!
What a greaqt story. Like the man said, this should be the standard by which all travel stories on the HAMB are measured. Oh, and the coupe is real nice, too.

Use your free ticket to visit the east coast and we'll show you a good time too !!!!!.

I'm the guy who won your magazine auction a couple of years ago on the HAMB and you included a rockabilly CD and a surf guitar CD. I still listen to them all the time and think of the cool guy who sent them to me.

Thanks again for the great pix and story.

This story made the hair on my arms stand up.

    Awesome.

Oh, and congratulations. Marriage is at least as good as the rest of it.

  6. My thoughts exactly!!! I'm in envy of anyone that can buy a waaaay cool ride in another country, get married to your best girl, spend 3 1/2 weeks of your 'honeymoon' tooling around the countryside, meeting cool people, doing cool things (even running out of gas is cool in a car like that!) and shipping it home to ease your return to humdrum.

    It's cool to be you!!

BTW your wife is a great lady to go through all that mechanical downtime.

Just to echo everyone's sentiments... great hotrod adventure story and pics! I am amazed how you were able to track parts down so quickly on the road. Yes, you had a lot of help from friends (which is awesome), but still, to pull off an epic adventure like that says something about your resourcefulness. After 14 years and a roadtrip like that, no doubt Mrs. 32Limey knows what she's getting into. CONGRATZ to both of you!

Hey, I also saw you in the bowling alley parking lot at Paso... I was the idiot who yelled out "Hey 32LIMEY!" as soon as I saw your car. Hehe. You were headed out at the time (evidently to find some parking across the street). Hate that I missed a chance to meet you and check out the '39.

Wow I don't think I could find all that stuff like you did in California and I live in the states. Incredible adventure and story. Maybe you should sell the movie rights. Going on an adventure, meeting new people, buying a one of a kind hot rod, driving it all over the country and breaking down and getting it back on the road one way or another, getting married, making it back to the show. Sounds better than most of the movies that have been box office hits.

  14. Great story! I dont think 90 percent of the folks on the HAMB would have tried that one and pulled it off the way you did! That includes me:eek:

  15. Yea, dating a woman and then marrying her best friend is daring!

Actually i'm quite attached to it now.......i have spare re-pop & NOS contacts with me plus a NOS baseplate complete with contacts.
Since it arrived here i put that wiring back thru the original ign switch too!

After doing the head gaskets & putting the original rad back in the thing runs real cool.

    Great story and photos ..

I will admit that there would be distributors and related parts thrown as far from the road/car as possible if I'd had the problems you did .....

What a great looking car... Man, I LOVE that body style.

Ok - fine... I'll admit it... The '38/'39 standard is my favorite Ford body style of all time.

    There, I said it....

The attached is a perfect example of why I like these cars soo much. The '38 deluxe and the '39 standards are ALL about stance. If you don't get the proportions of the rake right, these are just cool old cars. BUT, if you get the proportions right (they have to be pretty dramatic) it's a whole new car.

Look at this picture. This old car is very subtle... almost stock. But it looks like it's hauling *** just sitting there. It's Ford simplicity and functionality clashing hard with art deco design and sleekness. Reminds me of the post WW2 air speed aircraft (Hughes comes to mind).
