I don't know much about GM's manual transmissions so here it is. I already have my 54 Chevy set up with a 350 t auto trans and I'm now wishing that I had gone with a manual. I have a good bit of time and money rapped up in my cross member and drive shaft. Is there any manual trans that would be a direct replacement for the 350 turbo? Thanks.
Lot of work. Stock, the pedals mount on the master so you even need to swap that out to go from auto to manual, unless it was a manual to start with.
To answer your question, the Saginaw 3 and 4 speeds will fit your crossmember and driveshaft, as will Borg Warner, and Muncie 4 speeds. A lot of bell housings will work, you didn't say what you have for an engine. Now, as far as changing from one pedal to two, you are on your own.
You may be able to score some parts from someone doing the opposite swap, go to the cl***ifieds "parts wanted" section and post an ad. If you still have the old single master cylinder, you may want to go with hanging pedals and go to a dual master, still a potential pile of work. Bob
Mike Britton is correct about the transmissions...and all you need is the factory pedal set-up...bellcrank etc. Most of those cars were stick, should be a "cake walk" Get rid of that automatic...it's for your Momma!
It seems your planning swinging pedals so grab some 70'camero manual pedals & start fitting. Like any project, rough it in & tweek as nessasary. ROUGH IN A LITTLE AT A TIME. Maybe Hydrolic Clutch may help?
I had a 305, sag 4-speed in mine once upon a time. Stock pedals, front end, manifolds, modified "z" bar and clutch push rod. Also a 235/t5 and a 350/700r4 with a jag front end. Anyone who says it can't be done or it is too hard is a chainer. I made all my mounts.
