These trucks also came stock with a 292 Y-block. Probably the easiest swap to get it on the road.

    I've used the 67-72 F100 V8 Frame/motor mounts on many different projects.

They attach at both top and bottom frame rail and with a little work can be adjusted for different frame widths.
The same goes for the transmission cross members. Ford often offset the tranny cross member to one side or the other so the center bolt (trans mount) is often off center. You can flip the cross member end for end to center the trans mount bolt for either left or right depending on desired mounting position.

BTW, a 5.0/302 with an auto or standard overdrive is a natural choice.

"Frame/Motor mount" = Motor mount to frame bracket

I've got the 292/3spd out of my '57 F250, 60k miles, you can have it if you can get it shipped!

Speedway has the motomounts/cross member for cheap. It will bolt a 302 right in. They also have the tranny mount/crossmember but you will have to cut and drive out the rivets to remove the old one. I personally prefer a Ford in a Ford but a same vintage Olds or Caddy would be even cooler. If you ever decide to sell it and it has a 350 chevy engine, you will not have the interest and will have to take less money, IMO.

I put an FE in mine - I "cheated" and used the available crossmembers too. Plenty of room, an easy swap. If your going to lower the truck significantly, be careful of oilpan clearance - you may need a 4x4 pan for the FE or, if you go small block ford a fox body dual sump 5.0 pan usually fits nice

Check online with LMC too. I browsed their catalog and they have bolt in kits for just about any engine out there. Bolt in kits! You should be able to choose just about anything.... Won't run short on room.

i tried checking lmc but couldt find anything on their website i try maybe calling to see

  19. I don't see why a y block wouldn't be a near direct bolt in...I know its not a truck but a lot of the ford cars and trucks that had the y blocks in them were very similar. My 56ford 2door sedan had the stock 223 six in it but was toast so I got a 292 and it bolted right up no issues at all.

I would consider that before anything..Y blocks run and sound great! Some guy offered you a free yblock and trans you just have to get.it shipped and that wouldn't be too bad honestly

I plan on putting a 368 Lincoln Y-block in my 57. Dual range hydramatic behind the Y too. Should be pretty easy. I just need to know what mounts to use. I am thinking something off an FE might just work.

There's only one V8 that's perfect for your F1 and that's the mouse motor. Chevy rules.

  24. The Y-Block will bolt right in but you will need a different bell housing, other than that should be the easiest way to go. If you get the one that is offered free spend a little time and a bit of cash and make the thing run while you have it out. If you want a few tips I can tell you how to get some power for not much $. You will have to do some work though. ;)

Check out my engine swap thread in my 1960 F100.

    http://www.jalopyjournal.com/forum/showthread.php?t=366906

From my limited experience after completing that project that the SBC engine does lend itself to this swap.

However, if I had not changed the to IFS I am sure I would have gone with a 292 Y block and searched for a more modern tranny to bolt up behind it.

The other thing you may wish to consider is changing the diff ratio as the 223 runs something like 3.9:1 gears and I am sure the Y Block even stock ran taller gears probably about 3.7:1.

I used 3.54:1 during my swap which are fine since I also have a O/D T700R4 tranny.

I probably got a little carried away during my build but I am gald that I did the disc brakes, power steering, IFS and a/c which have all gone some way to making it a real nice driving truck.

Check out the Industrial Chassis Inc website in AZ and even give Steve down there call he is full of great ideas and has kit stuff too boot.

What exactly does Chevy rule at? Mounting distributors in the wrong place or running a business into the ground?

Chevy's win with the most oil leaks every time in my book.

now that's a cheap shot right there. Ford got a restructuring loan from Uncle Sam (taxpayers money). If you need proof, here's proof from FoMoCo itself, pleading for money because they made some "mistakes". Click on the link if you dare.

And don't forget, it wasn't Chevrolet who took the money. It was General Motors Corporation, which Chevrolet just happens to be a division of, best division by the way.
    Peace.
