We have a detailed post up on The Old Motor about the early Cameron and believe this may have been one of the companies first racing cars. Stop by and check out the post we have up on this very interesting car with walking-beam valve gear.
It's very interesting that even 106 years ago they had already determined the layout of the automobile that is still in use today on even the most expensive cars. Longitudinally mounted front engine, transmission, drive shaft, rear drive differential.
Deusenberg and Minneapolis-Moline used walking-beam valve gear too, much later than your pic though. We had a Minnie combine with that style engine made in the '50's.
The layout in the Cameron is slightly different, in that the transmission is incorporated into the rear axle. Pretty ingenious early transaxle. See it here: http://theoldmotor.com/?attachment_id=59258
If you guys like this setup check out the Duesenberg 16-valve racing engine I had a new block cast for, which I then machined. Check it out here. There are also pages of other walking-beam engines here. Just scroll doown past the Cameron.
How cool...... I'd love to watch all that valve gear in operation............ I wonder how much "flex" there is, in those long rockers ? 4TTRUK
If they're replicas, then someone's accurately replicating Duesey's notoriously variable quality control
